Yes, I'm an RN currently working under European Medcom at Landstuhl in Germany. You fall under a Medcom but work for a specific hospital. I'm assuming you mean as a civilian - if not, ever mind. :) Did you have a specific question?

I'm a Civilian RN currently working in a temp position on an AFB in the US. I love it. I work primary care/clinic. Everyone is nice, very respectful, and willing to help since I'm not familar with military form and lingo. There isn't the foolishness that plagues the civilian medical faciltiies. The military nursing leadership is wonderful- they lead, they know what leading is and how to do it. I always have felt my leadership skills lacked and I am learning by their good example. They are accountable, and responsible and are nice about it. When they need someone to do something, they say it with a finesse that doesn't come off offensive. For me, it is a night and day difference. They communicate very well with their staff by keeping us informed of changes. They give kudos for a job well done- a difficult, demanding obnoxious patient that you handled professionally. They are supportive of their staff. They don't focus on trivial fluff. They promote teamwork and do this by example. My management is visiable through daily rounds. They stop you and ask you how your day is going and listen to concerns. Unlike in the civilian world where they disappear in their offices and that's the last you see of them unless they feel the urge to bellow some stupid request or to tell you how much you are doing wrong/nitpicking. Since my position is temp, possibly over in Sept 2011. I was considering applying for a temp position in Landstuhl in the Medical Center after reading an article on nursing there - I have 30 years acute care bedside nursing(med/surg/onc/tele, sameday surgery and endo) This is my first venture into primary care and in a MTF. I love my job-it is so much beterr than the civilian facilites which right now are a big mess in the way they are run. In the civilian, world nursing bears the brunt of everyones hostility and frustration- the management above you and the aides below you, the visitors, occassionally the patients. Nurses are treated with such disrespect and distain. Nursing in the hospitals is pressure enough with out the management acting out. Never will you hear anything positve about yourself unless it comes from a patient and believe it or not - a Doctor. If you dropped dead on the floor, nursing adminstration would write your dead body up for some made-up breach of policy and pin it on your toe tag to the morgue. And report you to the BON for blocking a hallway or patient abandonment.
