I retired in 2013 from the AF Reserves, and I ran into some individuals from my squadron in the BX recently. They all said, that I retired at the perfect time. The shuttle from McChord to Hill AFB, to FAFB, and back to McChord, was taken away. Reservist from Hill in Salt Lake City, and the reservists that came from Colorado, who would drive to Hill to pick up the Shuttle, either have to find a squadron closer to home, retire, if they can, or just get out.
There have been other changes, with the idea, I am sure, to discourage others from going into the military, or just chase people out.
It really gets me mad, when this country spends, BILLIONS ON ILLEGAL ALIENS, but scrimps and cheats the military that keeps this country safe.
I am sure that there is another war brewing, in the near future, and when the, "you know what, hits the fan", they will be screaming for people to come back, or to enlist/commission.

Not to discourage anyone from trying to join the military but just to show how competitive it is right now. The Captain promotion list for the Army Nurse Corp came out today and the overall rate was in the mid to low 70's percent range. Until recently it was in the mid 90's. Perioperative nursing (66E) had the lowest rate of 50%; 66H's, med-surg, was 57% but it also includes ICU & ER nurse's. This just shows how hard it is to get promoted right now and many good nurses are not be promoted.
