Army...advanced practice nurses

I am currently in the USAR and looking into NP school. I know that there are some NP pathways that the Army does not acknowledge. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea what the Army accepts: FNP, ACNP, ENP, ect.

Thanks!!

The Army 'recognizes' those certificates, but this is a list of available "jobs" within the Army. Once you are in the Army there are more pathways - but you do not necessarily have as much control as you would in the civilian sector.

Thanks JC,

I was acutally looking at that this morning. I remember my recruiter telling me that the Army would not pay for an FNP but would pay for an Acute Care NP. Just a bit on the confusing side! :)

Well - it really depends what your current situation is and how you want to enter the Army..

you are a BSN grad right now? Applying for NP school? Are you interested in active duty or reserves? Are you set on a getting a masters or specific to FNP?

btw - where were you talking to a recruiter... was it a 'health care recruiter or from the goarmy.com website?

They wont pay for FNP? That is crazy because Acute care narrows you down on who can see.

I am in the USAR-ANC 66H8A. I am considering going active but I haven't made the final decision yet. Going to grad school will be happening regardless of my duty status, I am just not sure which pathway althought I am leaning towards CNS/NP pathway. I was talking with my recruiter but it was awhile ago and I could email him about it but I thought that maybe there were some APNs on here that had gone through the experience. However, any and all advice is welcome!

Momofabmtcs...please don't quote me on the Army not paying for an FNP as I am not sure!!

What do you mean by 'paying for FNP'?

Are you indicating you want to join the ARMY as a BSN nurse- and attend grad school funded by the army at a later date? OR are you trying to be a civilian going to grad school and establish a contract so you can get a loan repayed upon your graduation and being active from that point on?

Please provide some general details.

JC,

If you read my prior post it indicates that I am USAR-ANC, LT, 66H8A and yes I have my BSN. I am considering going AD in the future but have not made any concrete decisions. I am currently looking at grad schools (leaning toward NP pathway) and I would like to use my tuition assistance provided by the Army.

I am leaning toward an acute care adult NP pathway which in my civilian job would be preferable. However, I have heard that the Army does not provide tuition assistance for certain NP pathways. And you are right it could be that they will pay for it but do not necessarily have a job for it

I very well be misinformed and talking out my butt!! It does happen from time to time.

Thanks,

So you are, "prior post it indicates that I am USAR-ANC, LT, 66H8A and yes I have my BSN"

I only saw this..."I am currently in the USAR".

Good luck - I hope someone helps you out.
