Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) pre-nursing or nursing students?

Published

Just wondering if any of you here are either of the above? I am a pre-nursing student getting ready for hopefully my last pre-nursing semester in the Spring '09 (I am applying for entry in Fall '09). Wow, the nursing program here is SO COMPETITIVE to get into!! I honestly don't think I'll make it in as I'm an "across-the-board" straight B student who just got my firs C ever, in Micro-organisms and Disease no less!! Plus, next semester I will be taking Eng. 2 and Biol. 2, which are two of the courses the nursing program looks at heavily.

Was also thinking of maybe also applying to the school in Brunswick (they are changing from a 2-yr RN to a 4-yr BSN program beginning with the Fall '09) as well. Anyone here have any experience with that school?

I so desperately want to get in and get started! This is my life's dream and I put it off for way too long (I'm a mom of 4 and actually attend college with one of my sons!).

Any feedback would be great!

Blessings!

Congrats you're so lucky! BUT ok wait! What fee is due April 15? And orientation for nursing school? Wow I live in Atlanta so if Im accepted do I need to plan a trip up there? Why is orientation so early if it doesnt even start until August? I would think we would all have orientation together...any info would be AWESOME. and again CONGRATS...I am jealous!!!

Just got my letter today.....REJECTED. Oh well guess there is next Spring right. I thought I had an outside chance of getting accepted, but I am currently in prereq classes or am taking them this summer, I didn't have enough school done. Was hoping that they looked at my previous 2 semesters of all A's and throw me a bone, but oh well. Now I have to decide what to do this Fall. Congrats to all yall who got accepted.

Oh I'm sorry. I still haven't heard. What classses did you have left?

I got my acceptance letter yesterday! :yeah: SO excited!! Congratulations to those of you who got in and best wishes to those who haven't heard yet!

The $175 fee to hold your seat is due on 4-15. There are 4 dates that you can reserve a spot for orientation on. The reason that orientation is so soon is because you have to attend orientation before you can register for classes. There is one class, Pathophysiology, that you have the option of taking during the summer. That is probably the reason that orientation is so soon, so that everyone has the option of taking it if they choose to since summer session is just around the corner.

Hi all... this is my first time posting on here! I got my acceptance letter last week!! I'm so excited! I love Savannah!

I'm currently taking A&P1, Psyc 2950, and Stats and this summer I am going to take A&P2 and Micro. I'm doing extremely well in all my classes right now. Gonna go and talk to them and see if there is anything that I can do to ensure that I get in for the Spring 2011....Man I hate writing that, it seems so far away. Oh well out of my hands now. Good luck to all who got accepted.

Does anyone have any experience with registering for classes at AASU? Im trying to get into one for this summer and its all full. Any advice or information would be great as it will be my first class at AASU. Thanks.

Megan--this last semester when I went to register for Micro it said on SHIP that the course was full. When I had spoke to one of my professors she told me that sometimes Professors take away a couple of the given seats offered for their own personal wait-list. So on SHIP it may say, for example, that 20/20 seats offered are reserved but in actuality, only 18/20 are reserved by actual students. Luckily this was the case for me and my professor had reserved a couple of the seats for wait-list students. Since I contacted her so soon about desperately needing the course she arranged it with her office to allow me to register for it even though it said the course was at capacity. If I were you I would email all of the professors that offer that course and ask them to put you on their wait-list. Do it as soon as possible so you are on the top of their list. That way if they have personally reserved seats or someone drops early they will call you and let you know you can register. They may even hold the seat for you. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions about AASU.

Thanks so much for the info. Thats what I will do. I cant believe they cap the classes at 20 students that seems so small to me...Have you attended orientation yet? I'm wondering what kind of info you get. Do you think there is a chance I wouldnt be able to get into that micro class? That would be the saddest thing ever...not being able to go because of a prereq...?

Oh....I was just using the number 20 as an example...although I do think that as far as labs go for Micro...that they are about 20. They have like 60 students in lecture and then divide them into three lab sessions, usually. I'm not sure the numbers for summer though. I did go to my orientation on last Wednesday. They pretty much gave us paperwork that covered...rules, grades, curriculum, uniforms, materials/books, supplies, and then forms that we must return by July 31. The forms included proof of immunization, health insurance, proof of CPR certification, and an annual physical. Then of course they went over everything in more detail with a slide presentation. We also had an opportunity to try on some of the uniforms to see what sizes to order online. It didn't last the full 2 hrs. but we will also have another orientation in August, closer to when classes begin. The only thing that really bothered me was that we don't get to choose what lab days we take. They will do that for you. They do let you mark your preference, but they do not guarantee you that lab time slot. There were a few people in my orientation that hadn't taken Micro yet, but they all said that they had been able to register for summer. I think it may be possible for you to take it at Savannah State and transfer the credits to AASU. Good luck I hope that you can get in. That would be terrible to be accepted and then not be able to finish a mandatory class before classes begin!!

Oh that sounds interesting. I hope I get all of my questions answered. I feel like I have a billion! So will all 80 students take lecture together and we get broken up for labs? I wonder how soon clinicals start? Sounds like we will have a lot to do by July 31st. Yes I am so desperate to get into a micro class. On the schedule online it says its filled with only 16 students!!! I have my fingers crossed that I can get in to one. I am suprised you got done early with everything that you went over!!! Thanks for the helpful info!
