So, I completed my application to Arkansas State's MSN CRNA program beginning in 2019. I was relieved to have everything submitted by the priority deadline. Who else out there is trying for this school? Anyone have any information about the interview process?
I interviewed August 25th and we received acceptance emails September 27th! They seem to be doing things a few weeks ahead for y'all so maybe early September!
Classes have been great! Most everyone uses PowerPoints for their materials and I usually take notes in the "note" section of the PowerPoints! This last semester I started putting the PowerPoints in outline form and printing them that way to avoid staring at a computer screen AS much. Certain classes you have to read a ton of material on your own and certain classes you can solely rely on the PowerPoints. So first semester you'll have 6 classes. Two per day Tues-thurs. 2 are taught by two different CRNA's who are super super cool and basically tell you not to touch a book for them and they tell you what you need to know for their exams. Another class is A&P and while your book is a great reference Dr. Mo puts all you need to know for the exam on his PowerPoints. Pay attention to Dr. Mo he is so smart and you will learn so much from him! The remainder of the classes required a lot of reading for the exams. You'll be paired with a mentor if you get in who can answer more questions you have on how to study for certain tests and what not but I don't mind answering any other questions y'all have!
Some tips/misc info:
1. Talk to your mentor before buying books because I can name a handful I have never touched/shouldn't have bought!
2. Invest in a good computer and a good desk! I have a MacBook and I'm literally on it all the time to study and you take all your exams on them! I also purchased an L shaped desk from wayfair and it has been so handy for studying.
3. Invest in dress clothes because you have to wear business attire to class every day (insert eye roll).
4. You won't start clinical until August and we did not find out where we were going until mid July! Primary clinical sites: Little Rock, Hot Springs, Conway, Searcy, Jonesboro, and Memphis I believe.
Sorry for the novel if something else comes to mind I'll add it!
Thanks ASU2020,
I enjoyed the novel and especially knowing that some books may not need to be purchased. When i did my accelerated program, they convinced us to purchase from previous students and i bought pretty much everything. Surprise Surprise --- you only needed 2 and those too, you could have gotten away with by looking things up online
Still trying to sell them online....lol.
I considered by a macbook but have never used one. I have a 3 year old HP and its good but its a bit heavy.
I guess i could use one of those roller bags and make it look like i am about to board a plane but still walk proud...haha
I know someone that loved the windows surface and he used to always use mac.
I like that its small and that its light --- could even take it on a plane and have plenty of room.
dont know....will look into it.
I had my interview last week and I did not feel good about it. Dr. Black was not present and the interview was recorded. It felt rushed and the gentleman seemed disinterested.
As far as technology goes. I have used a Surface and a Mac. Both are good but both have higher price points than other brands of laptops. Additionally, I bought the Surface a few years ago when 2 in 1 touch screen laptops were not as common. Now there are several more options for laptops that have keyboards that can be removed and be utilized as a tablet. If the laptop is only needed for discussions/Blackboard, email, and Office, a Macbook or a Surface may be a bit too much for what is needed.
I think that as long as your computer is working good and you don't fear it will crash at any moment whatever you have will work! Because everything school related is on my computer and you take all exams on it through a software called exemplify. A few people have those 2in1 touch screen computers and they really like them!
Our class is very diverse. I believe the age range is 24-45ish. Numerous ethniticities and people from all over!

HI Throwaway,
sorry to hear about your experience with the interview. That is surprising that Dr. Black was not there and that it was recorded...that is something i have not heard of.
What would you recommend with laptops that can be used as ipads? (not tech savy)
Thanks
There are a few people that have tablets that can also be taken apart into iPads and they seem to like them! I already had an iPad mini and I actually use it a lot because I have kindle ebooks so I will open the books in it and open powerpoint on my computer to study or follow along in the book during class!

Thanks for posting asu2020
How have your classes been? Is information presented via power points and mix of independent (read the book etc)?
When did you interview? So i guess we should know sometime mid September?
Seems like someone mentioned to me that they knew they were in by end of July. But that person was a recent graduate --- so i am sure things were a bit different with the timeline and maybe structure as well.
Thanks for participating.
Any information and advice you are willing to share to help us understand what the program is like will be beneficial. :)
