Arizona licensure with criminal charges

Nurses Criminal

Published

We are being relocated to Arizona for my boyfriends job, I am wondering if there are any nurses out there that got their Arizona license with criminal charges. I have 3 misdemeanor DUIs, the most recent in 2002. I also have a felony prostitution arrest that there were no charges filed.(No charges were filed because that is not what happened. I took a job answering phones at a massage parlor and they did a sting. They arrested me originally with operating a business without a license and finally figured out that I was not the one operating the business. So, I thought it was all said and done. That was in 2000 and they put the felony prostitution arrest on my background check in 2003.) I got my nursing license in another state in 2003, prior to anything showing up on my record. I am in the process of trying to get everything expunged. Do you have to include expunged offenses on the Arizona application? If I can’t get them all expunged, how likely is Arizona to issue me a license by endorsement?

I was raised by an LAPD Sgt who retired after 30 years & went on to work at public defenders' office for next 20 years and we talked about law endlessly, I would have given a shot at law school had I been able to afford it. Law interests me so i read up on it frequently (that and I want to know what new laws go into effect such as having to use headlights if windshield wipers are being used etc...)

However much of what my father advised me on was legal matters prior ro 2002. From what I have read on this site everything will show up when it comes to BRN being able to see it. Your last DUI was quite some time ago however you have 3 so hope you no longer drink at all. Why is the prostitution arrest a felony? I thought that was a misdemeanor...that being said getting everything expunged is wise. I don't know about endorsement, I'd ask Az BRN on that as you posted this in July and have not received a replay on that one.

As mentioned getting them expunged is a good idea and the DUIs' will go much easier on you if you no longer drink. As for showing up on background from what I have read here and elsewhere in matters of healthcare licensure everything shows up.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I know what shows up on my record because I have done fingerprint background checks on myself. I think that maybe the prostitution arrest showed up as a felony because I was at the desk answering phones so they thought I ran the business. Which is why when I was arrested they told me I was being arrested for operating a business without a license. I was shocked when it showed up on my FBI background check as felony prostitution. Or, it’s possible that they ran this sting and were pissed that they didn’t find anything so they just upped the arrest on everyone involved. Idk. I don’t know the people and worked there a very short time. Or, it could be a mistake. I assumed it was a mistake at first and spent thousands on a lawyer to do something about it and they accomplished nothing. Which is why I am wondering if I should give it a shot at getting my license without getting these things expunged. Not even sure if I can get the prostitution arrest expunged. None of the offices involved claim responsibility for putting it on my FBI report.
