Aria School of Nursing September 2012

Published

Hi all, I'm new to this site (just joined today). But I've been lurking for a few weeks. I'm applying for the Aria Health SON and would love to meet others who are applying for the September 2012 academic year.

@ Bumblebee - I really hope it does start in September so that you'll be all set before graduation (how great would THAT be?!) But you've been such a great voice of reason and EXTREMELY helpful throughout this whole process! I pray that I'll have a nurse preceptor that's as kind as you've been in teaching us the ropes.

Specializes in ORTHO, TRAUMA, MED-SURG, L&D, POSTPARTUM.

I need at least 11-12 classes that aren't the main Nursing/clinical courses and I'm still planning on canceling out both PSU rotations. Unless they tell me I have to take more classes than I see listed on Curriculum and Rotation Plan...it close but doable. Maybe you are closer than you think? :) I know what you mean though, no way to be sure until Orientation.

Specializes in ORTHO, TRAUMA, MED-SURG, L&D, POSTPARTUM.

Also, I'm not sure how it works with the BSN program....if they add more classes on for that I might have to take a rotation. Are you planning on going for your BSN also?

Well actually, I'm thinking ill be done in Feb, then ill take the Kaplan course (nclex questions) which i think is two weeks...then ill prob schedule a month to study for boards...and im hoping that bachelor semester will be available and ill start that in MAY and be DONE by this time next year...

yeah things are changing along the way as we transition into a bachelor program school. so things will definately change during your 2 years there...but its for the better!

Like Nursing Informatics and Nursing Research are available and they are bachelor classes

@ Holly, I sure do hope your right that would really make my day! Thinking about all of this is making me . BTW sorry guys for all the typos and double posts. I was on the site from my cell earlier.

I am having similar issues with questions about transferring my previous courses into Aria. Holly, my English 1b didn't transfer either, and I took a few writing intensive classes! Hm...I guess we can ask them this stuff at orientation? I am really hoping to take off 2 rotations as well, but I am worried that the classes won't line up the way they need to in order for that to happen. Don't you need to take certain classes that coincide with specific nursing classes?

I guess I will find out soon enough! I know 3 days worth of orientation, we should be able to meet with an advisor etc. Do we pick our classes for Fall semester at the orientation?

I am glad we have gone on this journey so far together and can't wait to finally meet you all! :)

@ Bumblebee, thank you for all your help and advice! You truly have helped me with so many questions!

No problem, im always here to help (if i can). I might go to orientation on Aug 1st if I dont end up doing anything :) Ill let you guys know...

Yes there are certain classes that do go with some nursing classes, for example Health Assessment and 210, Adv. Pharm and 310...

But if you are in a rotation prior, then u can take those classes before...

Also sometimes the classes DONT line up the way you want them too. They are offered at different times from semester to semester, and some mostly stay the same.

Also, if they still do it the same as when i started, you dont get to pick your classes, they pick for you and you will get your schedule and if you want to change something you can. I remember one of the days they let us spend some time with our advisors and you can bring it up then.

DONT PANIC. Youve got PLENTY of time to get everything figured out. I completely understand where you are coming from because I was the same way. But now im on the other side and im telling you to relax and take everything one step at a time. :)

Also i remember we didnt order uniforms that day in orientation. Instead we were sent home with a passcode to the website to order them online (by a specific date). And that day we did get to try on the uniforms to figure out what sizes we needed.

I love getting all of this information through this site! Thank you to everyone!

-Did everyone get their Penn State photo ID yet? I went the other day and got the ID but was told that at our orientation is when our student accounts will be activated. Is that what everyone else was told?

-Also does anyone know the times of our orientation days yet?

Cant wait to meet everyone!

Just reactivated my psu account at Penn State Brandywine.

@Amber try to log-in to webmail.psu.edu or cms.psu.edu. if you can log-in than your student account is already activated.

geez they didnt give you a time yet

Ok well im a nerd so I had saved the stuff from when I first started. We only had 2 orientation days, first day was 9-3 and 2nd day was 9-1:30. So I'd guess its safe to say youll be starting around 9 :p

We have a three day orientation...I'm thinking our's is 8am for some reason, I'm get confused between the two packets. I'll check my packet when I get home.
