Are You Certified?

For those who are certified or those who are considering becoming certified school nurses -

Through what organization did you or will you obtain the certification?

Can you recommend some study books/materials?

Thank you.

P.S. Does a nurse have to work as a school nurse at least 1000 hours during a minimum of 3 years to become eligible to take the certifying exam?

Specializes in school nurse.

There's national certification and then there are some states that require their own licensure/certification to work in public schools. (It can range from prep courses to master's degrees.) Some don't have any special requirements, so you'd do best to look at the state you're interested in working in, and going from there.

The national certification exam (NCSN) is difficult, but prepping for it is a really good review for the different things that might come your way in schools.

This. It is a journey (or it at least it was for me). I thought it was a worthwhile endeavor personally. Made no difference in pay or steps at my school.
