So I don't know about you guys, but I am in my 1st semester and we are in week 4 now.

I was sitting in class today and I was SO tired!!

I have been getting 6-7 hours of sleep a night but I am still wondering if it is just me or something.:smilecoffeeIlovecof

I sit in the 2nd row and I am engaged in the lectures, but I find myself going "when are we going to get a break, so I can run around the building to wake up"!

:trout:

Our lecture starts at 7:30am and we go until Noon 2 days a week and then we have 7 hour clinical 2 days a week.

I am almost feeling that I am getting tired WAY too early in this semester.

Is it just me or are you guys feeling the same way?:dzed:

LOL!! Welcome to Nursing School! I am in my 5th semester and have found that for the last 2 years, I seem to hardly sleep at all.:zzzzz I get teased about it all the time...and yes, I do get tired! My advice: sleep when you can, study when you can't (and sometimes when you would rather sleep), laugh often and at yourself on occasion and keep on going, there is a light at the end of the tunnel (and it isn't a train:D). Nursing school is just the introduction to a whole new life as a nurse:nurse:.

Hey! I know how you feel! I'm 1st semester and have 2 kids! Feel sleep deprived all the time! So don't feel alone! They tell us to get plenty of rest, but turn around & tell us to study a min of 6 hrs per night! Its impossible to do both!

Third semester student here! Staying up late and getting up early is definitely catching up with me:zzzzz I also have 4 kiddies to get to and from activities and help with their homework. Tired is definitely the appropriate word:wink2:

I too am in my 4th week of Nursing school and am very tired. Last week I came home from class and laid down for "just a few minutes." (Let me preface this by saying, I do not nap.) Well, I fell asleep and jerked awake 1 hour later, completely disoriented. It has almost happened again twice since then! I'm going to rest while I can, I've decided and would urge you to do the same. You are telling yourself something here, don't you think?

Also 1st semester 4th week, and I am TIRED. I have talked to my classmates, and it seems we are all tired. It is a little better after getting through the first test, and doing ok. I think I know a bit more what to expect so I am not as stressed which contributes to being tired.

I agree. I am in my third semester but I know exactly what you mean. Every other time I open my mouth it is to yawn. Yesterday I sat down to watch a video for my assessment class and I woke up 2 hours later, sitting up in bed. The first thing I did was get mad that I wasted time I could have spend studying.

I think they make it time consuming on purpose, because sleep deprivation is a fact of being a nurse. I've learned that school is impossible if I am not continuously drinking coffee from the first thing in the morning until about 4.

Caffeine and sleeping in on the weekend...that should get you through.

Yea, I hear you hehe. I'd type more but I need to get some sleep.

I come home almost daily and take a nap for about an hour or less... I am not a napper either. well, I wasn't a napper. I just come home so drained and overwhelmed and then sit on the bed and I'm out. I've decided that I had rather take that "personal time" to get some rest than play on myspace or watch tv, except for allnurses of course :wink2:.

I've been tired since the second day of nursing school...that was more than a year ago, and I haven't felt not tired since.

Yes, I think they should list "has to be able to operate on a minimal amount of sleep," as a requirement to get into nursing school:chuckle. I am in my 3rd semester, and in my 2nd week of classes, and already am completely worn out. Just to warn you, the last month of each semester, it gets even worse. At least, it has in my case. That is when all the major papers come up as being due, teachers are getting the last exams in before finals or ATI's and anything else they can think of. :banghead: It obviously can be done, but just get used to it and get to expect that it will be this way until you are finished.

Coffee has become my best friend, I never used to drink it, until I started NS.

Good luck, and remember this is only a chapter in your life, that won't last forever.
