Are state surveys conducted on weekends?

Published

Hello,

I have a question about state surveys in California. I work weekends at a nursing home and I am wondering if surveys are conducted on the weekend?

Hello there. I saw that this conversation/ thread was dated back almost 2 years ago. I also have a question about the State Survey in California. I am curious to know if they ever visit a nursing facility during a federal holiday or on the week where a federal holiday is scheduled (such as July 4th)? Anyone please share an answer ASAP. Thanks.

I was a surveyor in Oregon a few years ago, and in theory we could, indeed, enter at any time day or night, weekend or holiday. We didn't do that in the time I was there, but once there was a complaint and we went in on a Saturday evening. We ended up issuing an IJ because none of the residents on one hall had call lights. When we asked, the administrator told us that they never used them! Management had to call in their maintenance staff to fix the problem, and of course we couldn't leave till the call lights were restored to those rooms. We ended up going home at 2 in the morning.

Don't know about federal holiday instances, but I was on night shift one time when they showed up at about 6:20 am. They could have been in the building earlier than that and that was when they came to my hallway in the back.
