Are people treating you like a nurse and asking you nursing questions?

Published

Ever since I started my CNA class people, my family mostly, have been asking me health related questions and then when I don't know they respond, "Well you're a nurse, you should know!" or my husband used to say well you're gonna be a nurse you should know that! :uhoh3:

But I'm not a nurse yet! Heck I'm not even in nursing school yet! How am I suppose to know whatever it is people are talking about?!?

I worked as a student in a nursing home for many months and I wore a uniform but that doesn't make me a nurse!

Do people do this to you? What do your response?

There is great advice here and great responses. I knew I could count on the people in this forum! LOL So glad to know I'm not the only one either! :)

Just take it as a compliment....;)

People trust you already!

Heck, my husband's boss called the other day and wanted to know if I thought that his hand was broken. I guess he fell playing softball. I have no freakin' clue, especially not from a phone call. I don't even start nursing school until the fall anyways. I told my hubby to tell him to go to the doctor.

Duh!

Does he not have a wife ? :lol2: thats funny!!!!

hahaha. i have the same problem every where. i worked at a hospital as a medical assistant plus CNA. When I first worked there, I do feel helping people make you happy. but after i have worked there for over 2 yrs, I found out the patients arent appreciate what u done for them. They want more from you. If you did 1 thing wrong, they will go and complain about you. The Nurses I worked with are even worst. They think they are only there for giving out medicines, IVs, Blood Transfusion, etc... I have this nurse saying this to me yesterday when a patient's family wanted some hot water. That nurse closed to that patient's family but she asked me to do it. I was like... that patient is also your patient. So she responded, "That's your Job!" in a loud voice. I was so angry. I know she's busy and all but she can just tell me, "i am busy right now, can u please help this person and get some hot water." in a nicer way and not in a rude way. That nurse really needs more TRAINING! she has tons of complains from all other people. Sigh.

My husband just called asking how long do sperm live once outside the human body and how long will a vascetomy procedure take.........Someone at his job is asking.....:lol_hitti :smackingf . I am like he is asking my this why?

I started getting questions when I first decided to go to nursing school. I had not even started college yet. Everyone's response was "if you want to be a nurse you should know this." Now that I have finished with all of the classes except those in the program, I get more questions and more smart comments. After I took pharmacology, all of my family members asked me anout every med they were taking. Sorry, the only meds I can tell you about off-hand are the ones my son is on. If I don't know the answer to their questions, they expect me to look it up.

That is sooo funny. It happens all the time, and i am at present, taking no classes. I will start the program in the fall, but it cracks me up, how they all think i can answer any medical question! On the one had it kind of puffs me up with self importance, but on the other, i am so humbled! I tell them all the time, "I don't know! I'm not a doctor! I'm not even a nurse! I don't know anything, that's why I'm going to school! Go ask your doctor!" It cracks me up. Although i do have to say, the little bit of education i have gotten sure has helped me in taking care of my kids. My Dr. has told my daughter, to listen to me because i know what i'm talking about! Funny hah? Heather
