Please let us know how your nurse to patient ratios have changed or are changing? What impact have these changes had on patient care and your attitude about the job?

I work an Ortho/Medical floor. We usually have a 1:6 or 7 ratio. We only have float secretaries at night so we get to share with half of the hospital. We average 2 admits per night. We only staff 1 PCT for nights, and we only get to keep them if we have 18 + pts on our 20 bed unit. If we have 15-16 pts, we sometimes get a PCT for half of a shift. Overall, it isn't that bad(especially when compared to what others have mentioned).

Lots of committees....just to have them.....to meet certain qualifications....for status....

Yes, we lost a bunch of staff and now I am getting 3 patients about 30% of the time in MICU. I am about to express my opinion with my feet.
