Are labs required for your pre-reqs??

Published

I've been looking at a lot of the pre-reqs for different nursing programs. Some specifically list that a class must have a lab. Other programs don't list the lab section of the class. If you're following pre-reqs (A&P, Chem, Micro) for a specific program, do you have to have the lab part of the class?

I think that at CC's all of the science classes come with labs. However, I just finished my BS in biology at UCSD and almost all of the lab classes are separate from the lectures. For instance, I a microbiology class, but didn't take the lab. The direct entry MSN program that I want to apply to requires micro + lab so I'm going to take it over again at a CC so I get the lab with it. Same with anatomy.

The CC I go to is a branch from a bigger campus...when I signed up for classes the campus I'm going to attend (the smaller one) I just signed up for one class (that includes the lab)...BUT when I was looking at the main classes offered for the campus I noticed the class and the lab were seperated, it still equaled the same amount of credits...I found that odd!

I am taking biology right now, but my CC does NOT require you to take the lab with it. It is optional- you can either take just the 3 credit bio course, or take the course with the 1 credit lab. However, I am in a completely different health program all together, so I'm sure it's much different for nursing. :)
