Are there any CNA jobs with high pay rates?

U.S.A. North Carolina

hello, i am a pre-nursing student. i will be getting my cna certificate in the fall. i wanted to know if there are any high paying cna jobs that i can look into while going to school. i want to quit my security job and get started in healthcare as a cna. i was wondering if i need to look at an agency, home healthcare or do they have traveling cna's. i want to be able to cover my bills and mortgage while in school and get the experience. i would appreciate it if someone could give me some insight on were to look and search in charlotte or gastonia. a co-worker of mine told me that he knew a cna who made $39k.:typing

reason for edit: cna's have a certificate, not license. cna's must work under an lpn's or rn's license.

Not sure about your area but Charlotte is huge and I bet they pay pretty good. You just have to call around. I live near Raleigh and worked in Cary. My pay was 14.00-15.50 which included shift diff and weekend diff. I worked there 10 years. You could definetly make 39k

if you worked a ton of double shifts. But that would be impossible and go to school at the same time.

Would you mind sharing which facility this was? Did you have to have a CNA II? I would like to quit my job and become a CNA (in preparation for a second-degree program at UNC), but I don't want to take the pay cut. I'm also not sure I want to delay taking the pre-reqs. that the program requires (I can't do both). However, if I was able to clear that much, it would be about the same......

I work as an ED tech. I am in school finishing both my paramedic and my RN and should graduate both around Dec. '08. I usually only work w/e's and usually nights. I get $2-$5 bonus just for signing up to work (I am prn) then weekends is $1 extra plus nights $1 extra plus if we see over a certain amount of pts in a day (we do more than not) $1 extra. I usually make between $17 and $19 per hour on the 30 or so hours I pick up on the weekend. For the experience I would rather be riding the truck but I cant turn down this kind of pay right now while I am in school. Kinda sad I wont make too much more than that as a new grad next year but Im not complaining right now. Very happy with my job.

I am a CNA. I make 16 and hour without any bonuses. I regularly pick up extra shifts and get differentials and bonuses. Last year I made more than the LPN I work with. ;) I also made sure that they knew I was multilingual and willing to translate for a fee/patient.

It's a matter of marketing.

Facilities in need are willing to negotiate, most CNA's are either unaware of this and or feel intimidated and facilities use this too their advantage.

Also, become prn/pool/as needed and if you are a damned good aide you can negotiate a better full time pay package.

As a new aide however, you will not have much to bargain with. Being multilingual or computer proficient will usually get you some consideration.

Where are you working as an ED tech at? Did you need any special certification? Thanks for the info.!

Work in Charlotte area. Im CNA II and have about 2-3 yrs previous ER/EMT experienc.

What about the Raleigh/Durham area? Any suggestions there?

Also, I'd really like to begin working in the medical arena (as I plan to go back to school for a second degree in nursing), but I'm not sure I want to get a CNA cert. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all!

I wouldn't even waste my time getting NA certification. I could be starting nursing school next semester had I not gone to school for 8 weeks to get my certification. I believe you can get your NA certification in two weeks at a nursing home, I guess that wouldn't be such a bad idea considering you could probably take care of that over the summer if you don't plan to take summer classes. Right now being an aid isn't a requirement for the BSN programs because they train you to become an Aid anyway but it is a requirement for ADN programs, in north carolina anyway.

You have to take into consideration the cost of living in the areas that pay a nice amount for CNA's I personally believe it evens out. At Baptist hospital in Winston Salem, CNA 1's start with 9.15/hr and CNA 2's I believe make 9.65/hr. They pay a 1.00 shift differential and 30 cents extra for the weekend. Now back home in a small town called Rockingham, the hospital there starts you at I believe 7.00/hr but when I worked at a retirement center they started me with $6.85/hr no benefits.

Does anyone know of any nursing homes that offer CNA training in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, or where I could get info. on which nursing homes do this? Thanks so much for the great info.!

I have been a CNA for 6 years now. I started out working in Ayden, NC and was started off with $6.75. I have relocated to Raleigh, NC and I'm currently making $13 on 3-11 during the week, and $14 on the weekend. I have already grossed over $30K this year. I'm currently in school full-time for Medical Assisting. You can make good money as a CNA. Private Duty Cases can pay up to $18 an hour. You just need to know where to look.

I work in LTC in Durham,NC as a CNA. I am currently making $13 an hour on 3p-11p shift. I make $14 an hour everyother weekend. I have been a CNA for 6 years.

Would you mind sharing which facility it is that you are working at? Also, do you know of any facilities in the area that will provide CNA training to new hires?

Thanks for your help! Merry Christmas!
