Are all applications online now??

I'm finally in a position to start looking for my first RN job. I went to a hospital I was interested in and visited the HR department hoping to get information from the recruiter about possible opportunities regarding jobs and/or internships.

Well, for one, there were no nurse recruiters. Secondly, the head of the HR told me to just apply online and to not send any hard copy resumes.

Are all hospitals doing this now? I realize this was just one hospital, but do I need to just apply online and hope someone will respond?

It takes the personal aspect out of applying. I like to talk to a person. It seems like this is the accepted way of doing business now. :stone

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

All the applications are online - they don't know what to do with paper. It's been that way for about 10 years I'd say.

However, if you are interested in a particular unit or position, I would apply online, THEN call the unit manager for the unit you are interested in and ask if you can fax that manager personally a copy of your resume. Let them know that you have already applied online, but you are very interested in that particular position.

Good Luck!

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

It is frustrating, especially if your application doesn't really represent who we think we are. I think gauge made a great suggestion :) Good luck!

Frustrating, isn't it?

Yes, it is frustrating.

Thanks gauge, I'll try that with the hospitals I am going to apply to within my immediate area.

LOL - it's been 10 years since I made a resume and looked for a job!

Hey Medic2RN, Some hospitals have the computers right next to the human resource office, such as Baylor Irving. Also the lady in there is helpful in letting you know what positions are available and sometimes she will call and let them know that they have someone available that wants the job.
