Arby's Onion Bun with Poppy Seeds

Published

I had an Arby's sandwich last night. The manager said there's no poppy seeds in the bun BUT after looking it up this morning it says it's topped with poppy seeds. Of course I was selected to test today.. Does anyone know how quick it clears your system?

Oh boy!!!

This is one of my great fears. I truthfully don't know all the ingredients of everything I put in my body. If I purchase something at a restaurant do I really know all the ingredients? I honestly don't. I live in constant fear of a false positive. Once I even ate a pulled pork sandwich that was slow cooked in a can of beer unwittingly and was terrified of failing my pee test. I do the best I can to avoid anything that might cause me to fail my pee test but do occasionally eat at restaurants, look at labels in the market and am fearful of even taking an advil when sick but the fear lingers. I hope that in your case the poppy seeds don't affect your test as even if your test shows a trace amount that it is under the limit of positive. My thoughts and prayers are with you!!!

My daily breakfast involves a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon with my coffee. The quintisentially cheap me was highly irritated a while back when the buy-one-get-one sale at Publix had nothing left except "everything." I do love an everything bagel but not at the expense of the psychological torture that this garbage is.

In answer to Nathan's question, I believe it's about 12-24 hours, depending on the amount ingested and the cutoff that they use (which for this garbage is probably as low as it can get.) If all you saw were a few poppy seeds or none, my opinion is that you are likely okay. If it was say the bagel that was coated in poppy seeds? Whole 'nother story altogether.

Now if I may be excused, I'm off to my bagel anonymous meeting where the topic tonight is making good cream cheese choices.....sorry my snark is getting the better of me:cheeky:

.....leaves room now

I had an everything bagel once at midnight and that day i had to test at Quest (9am) and also at my doctor's for the vivitrol shot (at 5pm). I emailed my case manager to warn her about it. The test at quest was fine. The one at the doctor they do in a cup with immediate results and that one was showing up opiates. They said they would send it out to a lab and I never heard back anything about it.

I did two dipstick tests at my hospital and they were both fine. I'm almost positive I'll be fine, I'm just less than 2 weeks away from finishing this and I'll be damned if I get screwed because of a few poppy seeds

I have learned all poppy seeds can vary significantly in strength. Theoretically if it comes out that you tested positive for morphine you should insit/demand that the specimen be tested for thebaine. If thebaine is present they can not rule it as a true positive but likely due to ingestion of a food containing poppy seeds. To give you a heads up the test is not cheap - it's even more expensive if it goes for confirmation testing. $600 plus. I hope you're negative and don't have to go through that. I know the wait time from the lab takes up to a month for that test. They have to send it out to speciality lab. Ironically, it's the only time you want an "unexpected" positive. Hoping the best for you. Let us know what happens

As you said you are fine. You don't need to cause yourself excess worry. I know that is easy for me to say but know there is testing that can be done that can confirm you innocence if need be. You'll be getting out successfully
