Aquinas College/ HESI

U.S.A. Tennessee

I'm currently studying for the HESI entrance exam to get into the Aquinas College ASN program. Does anyone one know what parts of the HESI you are tested on, I know some schools don't test on every section

Thanks.

I am in the 3rd semester of Aquinas' nursing program. I did not have to take the HESI, but from what I have heard it is easy.

how do you like the Aquinas Nursing program? I went to a student review site and saw a bunch of neg comments but they could have just been bitter students. Why didn't you have to take the HESI?

The nursing program itself is great. A lot of hospitals will hire an Aquinas nurse over any other nurse. I don't like the lack of organization, and things "come up" alot. But, from what I have heard all of the nursing schools in the area are the same way. You are going to have your complainers, don't listen to them. I have had a great experience ... it had been very challenging but worth it. When I applied they had a different test as part of the entrance into the program.

Did you take the entrance test at Aquinas yet? I'm taking it in August and was wondering how it is.

Thanks!

I took the Hesi test in April at Aquinas and it wasn't too bad. The math portion was primarily conversions and ratios. You have to pass with at least a 75%, I'm sure you will do fine. It really helped to study the Hesi exam book, which you can order on Amazon.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info! I actually ordered the exam review book yesterday. Are you starting the program in the fall?

Unfortunately, I was put on the waiting list for Fall 2011. I was totally bummed, but they indicated that after

May 24th some of the students on the waiting list will be accepted. Sucks that I didn't get picked initially and I got B's on all my pre-req classes and I got a 86% on the HESI exam.

Hopefully you're one of the ones who will be accepted! I wondered if they had a waiting list....wasn't sure how many they accept each semester. I'm hoping to get accepted for Spring.

Have you already taken the two classes that Aquinas requires? (Moral Theology & Ethics) I've taken Ethics and am only lacking Moral Theology for completion of the co-requisites but figured I would take that during the summer next year.

I was told that they got approx. 200 applications this semester and they only enrolled 85 students. So, I also hope that I get accepted..."fingers crossed." I was going to take those classes this summer, but since I was not accepted yet I am probably going to hold off. Its good that you got one of the classes out of the way. Are you going to be applying at any other schools?

Wow, I'm kind of surprised about how many applications they received. I knew they accepted quite a few each semester but didn't know how many.

I'm not for the Spring. If I don't get accepted to Aquinas, I may apply elsewhere for the Fall also. I took some classes at TSU last semester and decided it's just not for me. I don't feel like the teachers are really invested in their students' success. I don't know about the nursing department professors but the ones I've had were not. I had to re-take my a&p classes (it had been past 5 years since I originally took them) and it was ridiculous!! Not one time in either lecture or lab did we have to name bones, muscles, parts of any of the 11 systems, etc. I just really don't think they prepare you and so I am scared to take nursing classes there....I wonder how prepared you are for your career?!? I had a huge issue with one of the lab instructors and called and emailed the head of the biology department and never heard a word from her. I guess it's just a "job" to them. There aren't too many other colleges in the area..that's the bad thing....so I'm really hoping I get accepted into Aquinas in January and hope you get accepted in the fall!

I have heard a lot of really bad things about TSU and especially their nursing program. I heard they are going to lose their nursing accreditation. I'm sorry to hear you were affected by their incompetence. If you have any other pre-req classes NSCC has some great professors. I just completed my AP II class with Dr. ******* and he really did care about our success. With him it wasn't about memorizing they systems, but understanding application. It was a challenging class, but it was good class. They also have an ASN program that you can apply to in the spring. You can also try Belmont University or Columbia.
