APRNs and Student APRNs - when did you decide...

That going for an advanced practice degree was the right step? And what brought you into your field/specialty?

I'm going to be graduating soon and I'm seriously considering direct entry into my school's NP program. However, I'm very conflicted as to whether or not I'm really ready for that step. I know that I do want to pursue advanced practice nursing; however, I'm not sure if I should wait until I feel 'called' to do it or get it out of the way while my son is young and won't remember the time we spend apart.

I'll move this to the APRN forum where you'll get more answers. Good luck with your decision.

I knew before I even started my BSN. In college I researched careers, made a list, and shadowed/talked with people in each field on my list. In the end I narrowed it down to NP and PA, but decided on NP because I liked the idea that I could always fall back on my RN license if the provider field became oversaturated (not an option with PA).
