Appropriate Med times

Where I work they give medications that are scheduled for 11pm at 830pm. I work in an 80 bed inpatient Drug and alcohol facility. They see detoxers before they start med pass and dose them early. I'm new and don't really feel comfortable. Any comments or insight greatly appreciated

Can you elaborate please. What meds are scheduled for 11pm. That's kinda late. If someone wants to go to bed at 9pm why should you wake them up at 11pm? Can you ask pharmacy if the time matters? Also have you looked at your hospital policy on med times. That should guide your practice. Although, if I've had a patient that took a med at 7am that was scheduled at 9am, I would give it at 7am per patient request.

Now that I'm in the ER, meds are stat, meaning give them ASAP. I don't have to worry about timing so much.

While I work in the Ed, detox can have complications. Typically we try to get them "sober" without going into detox and then street em. If I worked at a detox center I would think you want to try to keep those meds regular. Check with your policy. Ask questions if you aren't sure why they are given when.
