My experience says that it is more negotiable to transfer to departments that have openings. It may also depend on if there is someone else available to take up the vacancy that you may be leaving. Ask, anyhow, but I would see what other openings throughout the hospital are.

I'm a new grad and started out on a unit and knew right away it wasn't the right fit. I talked to my manager about it and he got me 4 interviews on various units. One of the units wasn't even advertising on their website that they had an opening either. Be honest with your manager and tell them you're not happy there; you'll be suprised at how helpful and supportive they can be at finding you a job on a different unit!
Good luck!

most facilities want to keep the staff in some capacity so I would ask. You might just ask HR to see what is available and if there are any rules about transfers and can they help you negotiate. That might grease some wheels.

I would talk to my manager ASAP. I am a manager, and if it were me, I would want to stop investing training dollars into someone that was not going to stay on my unit.

Thank goodness you realized now before you (or your trainers) invested any more time. Most managers I know appreciate a straight forward approach. Too many people waste too much of their time whining - it is always refreshing dealing with someone who wants to be a part of the solution. Good luck!
