hey guys! i was just wondering who all on this website is planning on transferring from stlcc and/or applying to the accelerated bsn program @ umsl. does anyone know if we need letters of reccomendation? i read on some other posts about them and some sort of paper but the nursing receptionist said that i didn't need either. i've been talking to a advisor @ the college of nursing but there hard to catch up with without a appointment. i figure we can exchange info and ask questions to each other. :typing

thanks in advance!

oh, and if you all don't mind me asking, how in the heck are you guys planning to pay for that 30k bill???.... i got about :twocents: so far!!!!

My appointment is at 10am. When is your class?

Hey Lacey! Sorry I didn't answer sooner. But my class wasn't until 1, so by time I got up there, you were probably gone. Hope your meeting went good!

Just dropping in to say "congrats" to you all for getting accepted! You will all do great and soon will be nurses! enjoy your free time before it starts, because it's intense, but you CAN and WILL do it! It goes by sooo fast. :) Best of luck. Any questions just shoot me a message

Did anyone receive a financial aid award letter after they were accepted into the program? When I applied I chose summer 2010, so I do not know how that affects it. When I contacted financial aid, I was told that my package was still being put together. I also was told that I don't have to request aid for summer becuase I did not receive aid already for the fall 2009 year. I know that I don't qualify for any grants because I already have a degree. I also applied for the 2009-2010 Fafsa last year in March.

I was told by financial aid they would do my package after after I register. Since I am not currently an UMSL student, I don't get to register until sometime in April. It will be cutting it a little close! The way I understood it, the fafsa from the 2008 tax year info covers summer. Once you have 2009 taxes done, you can do the fafsa that will cover the fall and beyond semester. I figured out last weekend, that I will have my A&P final on a Thurday, and start UMSL on the following Monday. I am looking forward to that summer break weekend! As much as I would like a week on a beach somewhere, I am excited and amprehensive about the start date getting closer and closer!

Thanks!! My advising appointment is April 19, I also very excited!! I was nervous too, but watching nursing students' diaries on youtube helped me feel more confident. I recommend watching them, you get lots of tips and advice about studying, time management, and clinicals. Some even told funny stories about little mistakes they made in clinicals!

Hey fellow NS'! David's right about last year's Fafsa covering this summer. The fafsa "year" starts over every summer instead of when the year actually starts. UMSL can award you any student loans and/or grants that fafsa awarded you but they DO NOT grant anyone scholarships during summer semesters, that really bugged me. Due to that clause i wont be recieving half of the transfer scholarship bc the only grant it once a year and both of our spring and fall semesters are in the same yr, and they dont grant on our two summer semesters. :( But as far as the loans and grants you can just go to Fafsa.gov and check what they awarded you for 09'-10'. You would then subtract that from any assistance you have already used. like if youve taken out all of ur loan max and taken advantage of the grant you may gave gotten then theres nothing UMSL can award u. These things should be clearly defined when we are accepted bc ppl really dont know. My sister was accepted into this very program a couple yrs back but had to drop out a week before bc she had already used all of her fafsa award during the fall and spring semesters and had nothing left over. Im a worry wort so i ask alot of questions otherwise if i was just depending on the school I probably would have no idea how i would pay for the summer. I think im rambling now so ill shut up! I hope I helped tho!

Cant wait to actually meet u guys!

I know what you mean about the scholarships...that really bugs me too that they don't give out any for summer! That's too bad about your sister...sounds like you are really on top of it all though :-)

So by my calculations.....in five weeks we will be sitting in class!

omg...that's scary and exciting lol

Hey guys! I started a facebook group for our class. You should be able to find it if you search for "UMSL Class of 2011 Accelerated BSN Students". Spread the word!

Funny..I just did the same thing for the traditional program class of 2012. I wish I was joining you all this year, but there is still a waiting list of over 50 people for the accelerated program this year!
