applying to Nursing school>help!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone,

I've been attending a college for 3 years now and I changed my major to nursing a year and a half ago. I've taking all of my pre-reqs for nursing but I didn't do well in A&P 2 & microbiology because I took them together as summer classes as a result I didnt have much time to focus on each subject.I was planning on attending nursing school this fall but I applied in May and didnt get accepted to any nursing schools and most of them said my gpa(2.6) was either too low or I applied too late.the school that I'm currently enrolled in doesnt have a nursing school(they only offer the accelerated program for someone with a degree in something else).I am really stressed out and depressed over this situation and I don't know what to do,I feel like I've been going to school and accomplished nothing. I would like to get into a nursing school and graduate with my BSN. Any suggestions/advice>Please help...your advice would be extremely appreciated.

thank you

It sounds to me like a good suggestion may be to re-take A&P and Micro and get A's in both, and maybe even re-take any other science pre-reqs that you did not receive A's in. This will help not only your overall GPA (slightly), but it will boost your "core pre-reqs" GPA, which many schools look at separately from your overall GPA. I know this is not exactly the ideal option for you, but you may want to consider it if you really want to go to nursing school. Many nursing schools are becoming more and more competitive and the minimum GPA for acceptance is getting higher. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I agree with the advise above. 2.6 would probably stop you from moving forward into a nursing program. Redoing A&P and micro would help a lot. Get better grades in those and see where you are after that.

thanks CER022512...yeah I plan on retaking A&P and Micro...but should I transfer to another school that has a nursing program and retake them(A&P & Micro) while taking 2 other courses at the college that I am now to improve my current GPA ...or should I just transfer to the school that has a nursing program and not worry about my current GPA at my current college?

@teeleelove ..ok thanks

any other suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

Definitely take A&P and Micro over, and DON'T take them again in the same semester! As others have said, strive for an A because programs are very competitive these days.

You might consider transferring to the school with the nursing program. If I am not mistaken, it will allow you to start with a fresh GPA. Transferred coursework from another school does not normally calculate into a home school's GPA. However, those old grades will always be a part of your record.

I would stay put for now and retake classes- if you transfer to a school that has a nursing program hoping you can transfer internally and then don't get in to that program....you'll have to transfer yet again to go to nursing school. Pull your GPA up, try to get a job or volunteer in healthcare in some capacity, and reapply.

@ Hiddencat ....the school that I am currently in does not offer A&P1&2 or Microbiology. I took those 3 classes at a community college.
