Specializes in School Nursing.

in the same district as my kids!!! As much as I've gone back and forth about whether or not school nursing is for me I'm actually excited to at least go and see what the position is all about! In my current district there are currently 7 of us and we are each assigned specific buildings and we sit in the health office with our health aides (who are not all LPNs although some are) and help with the hands on care of the kids as well as the SPED paperwork. In my home district there are only 3 school nurses and all of the health offices are staffed by LPNs so I'm anticipating that they utilize their school nurses differently.

Does anyone work in a district that is set up this way? With LPNs staffing the school health office and the RNs doing other things besides the hands on care? Do you like it?

No.

I'm just chiming in to say I'm excited that you are excited!

I would not like being responsible for a LPN or any one else. The fact that LPN/LVNs working in that capacity are not allowed to perform assessments would certainly muddy the nurse practice act (in Texas) in that each visit to the school clinic requires some kind of assessment. Fortunately for us, in our district we have a RN on every campus.

But, this sounds like a positive change for you! Good Luck.

HI OD!!!

I wouldn't mind an LPN working with me. She/he would have their own license and wouldn't be working "under" mine.

We have some two nurse schools that use LPN with a RN. They do the office visits and meds. The nurses do the case management.
