Applying for Licensure

Hello...I am a new grad from IL, I haven't taken NCLEX yet and I am actually in the process of applying for it. My plan is to work in DC, I wanted to know if anyone knows the steps to applying for the NCLEX in DC or is it possible to take my boards in IL and have it send to the DC board of nursing...I am a bit confused. I called the DC board and they told me I can sit for boards anywhere but have my results sent to them. They also told me to fill out the application and just send official transcripts. I am wondering if I still go through the process of applying through CTS and paying $82, doing fingerprints and background check for IL? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!:confused:

You can apply to the BON to the state you trained in then once sat and passed NCLEX can endorse your license or alternatively just apply to new BON to sit the exam.

You are actually applying for licensure as a nurse, there is no such thing as an application for the NCLEX exam. You require permission from a BON to be able to sit for the exam.

If you are not going to work in Ilinois, then I would not go for licensure there and complete the extra steps that are only valid for them. You can apply for the license in DC and actually sit for the exam where ever you wish in the world that has a Pearson-Vue center that offers the NCLEX exams.

Much easier and cheaper to just do it this way. DC is going to have their own requirements that you will have to abide by and complete as well. IL requirements are only good for that state, only the results of the NCLEX exam can be used in other states. And then if you go for licensure in IL, you are still going to need to go thru the endorsement process for DC to be able to work there. And results need to be sent by a BON, you are unable to just send them on your own.

I strongly recommend you take NCLEX in IL, get your license, then contact the BON in Maryland (I suppose that is right) for reciprocity. Some states are "compact" and will allow you to work in one state while holdling a license in another - BUT you have to establish a permanent residence in one or the other. States that are not compact have reciprocal agreements with all other states, which means they will figure out the paper trail once you apply.
