Applying to Chamberlain Sacramento

Published

Here is my advice for applying to Chamberlain College of Nursing, specifically the Sacramento, CA location!

The sacramento location is looking for a minimum 3.0 GPA and high 80s-90s on your HESI exam.

**my application was accepted for the September 2020 start date** I got a lot of questions on Instagram so I’d figure I’d answer them all here! ?

1. attend an open house! You will get your questions answered there about the program, the application process, etc. They also hold information sessions 2x a week which is the same information in a much smaller group. These sessions are great because you can speak to admissions advisors one on one ?

2. Apply EARLY in the application cycle!! They accept applications 3x a year. The application cycles are listed on Chamberlain’s website for each application window.

3. Study for the HESI at least one solid month before you submit an official application! Once you apply, they schedule your HESI exam asap. So plan accordingly! If you haven’t taken any prerequisite classes (A&P, Microbiology, Chem) I’d recommend beginning your studying earlier. Use HESI test booklets, the mometrix online study guide is worth the investment, and Khan academy on Youtube is great for science! Take it seriously. I deleted all social media and any other distraction apps off my phone. Eliminate distractions and put the work in!

4. If you aren’t accepted right away, KEEP PUSHING! The first time I wanted to apply my application was not competitive enough. So I took 13 units at my community college to boost my GPA before I applied again. Your advisor wants to see a change in your application!! Show them you’re serious. They accept up to 54 transfer credits, you can see which GE classes are accepted on the BSN 3-year schedule.

5. Make your passion statement personal. This is your chance to show admissions who you are besides your GPA and exam score! They don’t want to hear you want to be a nurse because someone you know is a nurse. They want to know who you are, what fuels your fire and how you’re going to make an impact in this field.

6. Ask questions! Instagram is a big tool to meet people. I’ve met so many people from Chamberlain’s Instagram account that have given me a lot of useful info! You can usually find current students by searching #ChamberlainUniversity or the Sacramento location’s geotag ?

Be patient! Your time will come. You will reach your goals! You will become an RN ❤️

Wow! Thank you so much for this post! I've been looking around to hear something like this. You happened to say you took 13 units to boost your GPA and that is exactly what I'm doing too! What classes did you choose to boost your credits? So far, I have a 7 unit/6 week CNA course and a P.E. class for an easy A.

Hi!! So originally before I found Chamberlain, I was applying to ADN programs. Once I added Chamberlain to my list, I chose 13 units that consisted of GE classes that Chamberlain requires for a BSN like statistics, political science, philosophy (critical thinking), and I can't remember what other classes. They were all classes that I was able to transfer for credit. I think getting your CNA will be great for your application! :)

Thank you so much! I have been looking into ADN programs as well, but Chamberlain is the top of my list. Best of luck with your GE classes! I took those as well and I remember them being good courses. I will continue with the CNA and just pray that I get in! ?

Hey everyone,

Not sure if anyone still replies on this one but I applied at Sacramento for spring2022 and I was wondering since I’ve been lurking on here has anyone ever gotten a financial aid award package from Chamberlain and not been accepted or know someone who got the award letter and didn’t get in. I got my financial aid award package and am just waiting now to hear if I got in or not and the anticipation is killing me. After reading a lot of posts on here it looks promising that it’s a good indicator of being accepted but I’m just curious! ? thanks for any insight.

Hi there,

I applied to Chamberlain as well. Got my award package and did not get accepted:( I thought it was an indicator that I would be too! I got an account on my chamberlain, and even financial meetings prior to finding out I was declined from the campus. All of that extra work made it seem like I was, but I guess not! I'm retrying again for some of the other campuses as of now! Best of luck to you though! I hope you get in:)

Thank you for responding! ? I’m so sorry to hear that! Did you try to transfer to any other campus? I heard that if you get in at another campus you only have to do one session before you can request transfer and you would have a good chance at transferring to the campus you want. I actually have a coworker who did that. Also I think in the beginning it wouldn’t be so bad a lot of people on here that don’t get into Sacramento seem to all be getting in somewhere else. But I recommend you at least try for it. And best of luck to you!. I have my fingers crossed, I was told I won’t know until Aug 9 ? sooo far away I can’t help my anxiety I just wanna know now. I also have another question since that isn’t an indicator did you also get access to canvas for chamberlain or have anything on it if you did. There’s two on mine a success seminar for prelicensure and then an online studies that success course. And I was hoping maybe those were an indicator maybe but I haven’t heard of anyone having anything like that. Or maybe it’s something every applicant gets? I just wanna know ?

Hahah I must be tired after work ? I just read the trying for other campuses part over again. That’s great! I’ve got my fingers crossed for you hope you get in! ?

Hey Heather,

Yes! I also received the canvas for Chamberlain as well and the success seminar. I think every applicant gets one. I'm not quite sure as to why they do that because I've never heard of any other program giving applicants a canvas to the school when they haven't been accepted yet. I thought the same exact thing and got my hopes up. I'm glad you brought up transferring because that reminds me I need to ask my advisor about that, LOL. I chose to go to Mirimar, FL as a backup which is in the Miami area basically. I figured If I have to move might as well enjoy my stay extra haha. I find out if I get in sometime this week, so I'm super anxious as well. I know the process is so stressful I've been going stir crazy about it for awhile now, so we are in the same boat. Best of luck to you girl! Keep in touch with your results. I believe we can do it and make great nurses ? Take care!

Fingers crossed for you to get in!! ?? Check back in here I’m curious after if you get accepted. Honestly I am sure you will I have yet so see anyone qualified not get in at another campus Sacramento seems to be the hardest one to get into. ? Thanks for getting back to me again. I can mellow out my high hopes now LOL Knowing that everyone gets it I’m just gonna sit tight and wait and see I guess. I just wish I could know sooner. If I’m not getting into Sacramento I wish I could just know now so I could start the process of trying another campus. ? Miami sure would be nice, what start date are you applying for?

Sadly I did not get accepted:( I have been working one on one with an advisor from Chamberlain for awhile now and she seemed just as shocked as I was! I was applying for fall start, but now I am pushing it to possibly next year (I'm also trying a couple ADN programs as well). I'm aware nursing school is competitive to get into, so I'm wondering if COVID is making it even worse or something..I'm not sure. I was so confident I would be accepted it sucks. A couple of my classes didn't transfer over so I'm planning on just taking them over at Folsom Lake College and try again. Maybe take my HESI again, which is a total pain since I scored well in my opinion. I hope you have better luck than me and get in!! Keep me updated on you status girl. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed FOR YOU! What start date are you working towards? ?

Wow I’m sorry! ?  They didn’t give you a reason? Maybe the date you were going for was full? How did you do on the HESI? I took it twice, first time I bombed the science section for Chemistry like actually failed it and everything else was fine I still passed it and my score wasn’t bad and then I took it a second time and brought my sciences up a lot and everything else stayed the same and the score they gave me didn’t change at all. Weird but I guess they look at your math and English to give you their score. I am trying to get in for January 2022 but I don’t find out until August. I have been trying not to even think about it because the days are going by so slow waiting for an answer.  ? Are you going to try any of their other campuses? Definitely don’t give up. I’m not sure how many times you can apply or transfer your package but have you thought about the one in Arizona or the new campus down in SoCal?

Good luck getting into an ADN program! ? which are you applying at? That’s definitely at least a start and if you can get you ADN and do well I’m sure you’ll have no problem at all doing a program to get your BSN after.
