Application for CNA?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I just graduated a CNA class and now applying for jobs. I called this one nursing home and ask if they have any CNA positions and they said yes so I went in to get one. Turns out I'm not allowed to take the application home with me and turn it in later. Is that true for other nursing homes? Are we not allowed to bring home the applications? I didn't have my reference information with me which is why I wanted to take it home.

Some places do this if they have a test for you to take that is included with the application. They want to be sure you know the information on the spot. I've only had this happen a few times, but that could be the reason.

You should always take your information with you. I've had an employer in the past that wasn't in the nursing field that didn't allow the application to be taken home. It's something you should be prepared for in general. Like i_love_patient_care, it's usually because there is a test given with the application or they do interviews on the spot.

Always take any information which you might need to fill out an application! Speaking as someone who made hiring decisions at a precious job, having that information with you shows your readyiness and enthusiasm for the position. Also, if you fill out the application right away there is a chance you could get an interview right away, too. While a lot of people take applications home to fill out, I don't really think that is always the best practice. Obviously, as you have discovered, some employers do not allow applications to be taken home. If you pick up applications from multiple facilities, you need to somehow remember which application goes back to which facility (trust me, it does not look good if you return the wrong one!). Also, while the facility may be hiring at the time you pick up the application, there is no guarantee that they will still have that position open when you return the application a few days later. Overall...it is (in my opinion at least) best practice when job hunting to have with you any information which is needed to fill out an application.

+1 to all the above. Some places allow you to take an application home, some don't. It's always best to be prepped & ready when you step through the door, 'cause you just never know. Guess how I know this?

That makes sense! I'll be sure to always bring my information with me when I fill out applications. Thank you all for your input :)

I have worked places that ask for applications to be filled out in the office to make sure the applicant can read and write legibly. Yes, it sounds crazy but we had people that turned in beautifully written applications who could barely write legibly enough for the rest of the office and our customers to read. Writing in neat, legible handwriting was important and it was easy to see someone else had completed their application. I personally don't think it's a big deal and if I'm going somewhere for an application, I always have my info with me to complete it in the moment.
