I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.
A little about me:
Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!
Leteresa93-I'll probably decline Ohsu,Pdx, if I get into pcc, I guess pcc is going to release their acceptance next week on Monday. Also Alewis513 mentioned she has heard some disorganized comments about pcc, So I m curious what she has heard.
How many people are on the alternate list? Does each campus have its own alternate list?
Hello Ario! Congrats on making it into OHSU PDX=) All of the schools have their own waitlist. PCC has a waitlist of 80, CCC a waitlist of 40 and I'm not sure about OHSU or the others. I'm waiting to hear back form PCC myself. There has just been talk about PCC's Nursing program being very disorganized because they are going through transition right now and all. There was a post on this forum I think around thread 30 or so where a current PCC Nursing student kind of vented a told others to be weary about PCC and to go to OHSU if you get excepted. If you wan to hunt it down, you can read it for your self. I would choose OHSU PDX myself, but, that's just me. CCC is my first choice next to Linfield at this point, both of which I'm on a wait list for. All of this waiting is killing me. Goodluck!
The feedback about PCC's program I found alarming is here:

Although, keep in mind that this was from a few years ago. I do remember a student from a few weeks ago saying similar things.
It seems frustrating, as a nursing hopeful, trying to decide what to do with that information. I think the biggest red flag for me, was reviewing the NCLEX pass rates, and although they score well- very few students out of 80 actually took the exam (I think 37 one year).
I try to keep in mind that each program will have its pluses and minuses, and not every student will be a good fit for every program. Excellent nurses will come out of PCC I'm sure, and unfortunately you can never truly know the dynamics of a program until you are actually experiencing it for yourself.
As a soon to be graduate of PCC's Nursing program, I can only speak to my experience, but I am so grateful to have attended here. Expectations are high and the program is very demanding, but it has given me a very firm grounding in both knowledge and clinical experience, moving forward I feel well prepared to take the next steps in furthering my education and starting my career. I might gently suggest that some ambiguity and disorganization, losing beloved classmates due to test grades, frustration and feeling overwhelmed are probably going to be experienced in nursing schools everywhere, that the first year of this program is the hardest as one acclimates to a new way of thinking and a huge mass of information, and that it is harder to be resilient to these challenges if all you can see is the negative side of it all. I'm currently trying to get everything pulled together for OHSU's CC transition program and there has been a lot of runaround and mixed signals from them, so....probably very safe to say that PCC is not even slightly perfect, but it is far from alone in its imperfections, and I personally would not change my decision to attend here for anything.
Edited to add, re: NCLEX pass rates--Last year all but one member of the class of 2013 passed the NCLEX, and that one passed on the second try. Our pass rates are high.

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum but have been following for quite some time. I have applied to Pcc and ohsu pdx. Unfortunately I didn't get into Pcc. I am however on the alternate list for ohsu pdx. So if any of you ladies decide not to go to ohsu pdx, please inform us so I have a better chance at getting in! Hehe
Congratulations to everyone fpr their acceptances!
