Applicants to Portland/Salem Area Nursing Schools 2014

Published

I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.

A little about me:

  • I am 33, married, no kids.
  • I live in Salem and have taken the bulk of my prerequisites at Chemeketa.
  • I have been working as a Dental Assistant for 2 years and feel that it is supremely unfair that many of the OCNE schools do not count dental assisting towards their "direct patient care" discretionary points. (I went to school for a year to become a dental assistant. I have dealt with medical emergencies, bodily fluids and have had my fingers in mouths on a daily basis! I'm grumbling, I know.)
  • I have a 4.0 GPA (so far) for all of the OCNE prerequisites (My single B in one of three Chemistry classes will haunt me when I apply to Linfield)
  • I am still one term away from finishing my prerequisites for the majority of the schools to which I plan on applying
  • I don't really think that I will be lucky enough to be accepted to any of the Portland-area community colleges due to my lack of necessary discretionary points (if any of you CURRENT students have found otherwise, I would be very interested to find out what you know!)
  • I will be applying anyway, because I know that I should at least make it onto a waiting list or two and as I have seen in previous threads - they do go through their waiting lists!
  • I sincerely hope that all my hard work will pay off and that I will be accepted SOMEWHERE

Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!

missjordie, I still haven't heard anything yet. You would think they would notify everyone at the same time.

That would have been better.

Just an FYI to people who received acceptance emails from Mt. Hood- The acceptance email I received instructs us to send our email accepting or declining to -------------- at MHCC. Our yellow sheet that they gave us at the interview instructs us to email our intent to --------------.

The date to reply by on the acceptance email says 06/13/2013 (LAST YEAR). So I think they missed that when they edited the email they sent out this year. Anyway I sent an email to --------- at first then sent one to ----------. I let -------------- know about the error. I don't know if anyone else noticed this on their email but just something to pay attention to.

Gosh even the accepting of an offer has proven to be anxiety inducing!

Hey, alewis513. They put 40 on the wait list at CCC. That totally sucks for those who are still waiting to hear back. I wish I knew where I was on the wait list to ease my anxiety.

I'm trying to have a little hope still. I'll be honest though, it's difficult. I'm going to keep my chin up though. I hope to get in somewhere!

BRW85 yes!! I noticed the same date error too then for a second I pinched myself just to make sure I'm reading my accepting email right haha :) that's what I did too, I sent one to ------- then one to ------------ and -------------- responded to me today but -------------- hasn't yet. So at least I know one of them got it! To all of you that are waiting good luck and you'll hear from them soon!! I got my ccc email this morning, and I think they said they'll send an email out notifying acceptance or denial or wait listing, so you guys will hear something for sure! Nothing from pcc yet though...

Nope still nothing

Hope the people left hanging will hear something today!

Alternate! It's better than a no!!!

I just got an email from OHSU saying they are trying to figure out cohort size and an email will come as soon as they figure out that info.

Was put on the alternate list at CCC. So now Iam on two alternate list, the waiting game continues....

Alternate is super better than a no! Congrats, missJordie. Like I said before I know of a gal that got a call in mid sept to get into the program that started the end of sept. So be patient! Plus ohsu and pcc are still deciding!
