Applicants to Portland/Salem Area Nursing Schools 2014

Published

I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.

A little about me:

  • I am 33, married, no kids.
  • I live in Salem and have taken the bulk of my prerequisites at Chemeketa.
  • I have been working as a Dental Assistant for 2 years and feel that it is supremely unfair that many of the OCNE schools do not count dental assisting towards their "direct patient care" discretionary points. (I went to school for a year to become a dental assistant. I have dealt with medical emergencies, bodily fluids and have had my fingers in mouths on a daily basis! I'm grumbling, I know.)
  • I have a 4.0 GPA (so far) for all of the OCNE prerequisites (My single B in one of three Chemistry classes will haunt me when I apply to Linfield)
  • I am still one term away from finishing my prerequisites for the majority of the schools to which I plan on applying
  • I don't really think that I will be lucky enough to be accepted to any of the Portland-area community colleges due to my lack of necessary discretionary points (if any of you CURRENT students have found otherwise, I would be very interested to find out what you know!)
  • I will be applying anyway, because I know that I should at least make it onto a waiting list or two and as I have seen in previous threads - they do go through their waiting lists!
  • I sincerely hope that all my hard work will pay off and that I will be accepted SOMEWHERE

Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!

No they did not. They also said not to inquire about your spot on the wait list either so..... still in the dark.

I have been accepted at both CCC and fall term MHCC. I'm not sure where I will decide (still waiting to hear from PDX OHSU to make my decision). So someone will move up on the wait list at one of those schools. I'll post here when I get it all figured out. I had 54 pts going into CCC for those who are trying to figure out where they stand and feel like I had a strong essay and interview with lots of relevant work experiences to draw from for both the interview and the essay.

This is my second year applying. Last year I had not finished my prereqs and although I had a CNA license, I was not working. This year I applied with all classes done with A's and CNA2 experience in a hospital. So those of you who are not hearing back from the schools, do not be discouraged -- there are ways to strengthen your application for next year!!

I had 57/66 points going into the essay with As in prereqs and CNA experience. I had to retake my classes due to expiring and it was the best decision I've ever made. Don't give up to those wait listed and those not accepted this is my 2nd time applying it will happen for you.

Still no news over here.

Argh!!! I feel your pain, missjordie. Maybe you will join me on the wait list, or better yet, get in! Fingers crossed=)

Do they notify you regardless of acceptance or wait list or denial?

I'm pretty sure they let you know their decision, either way. I'm just wondering why some have been notified and some haven't at this point.

I am pretty sure you are notified reguardless but not positive. Just so you can see where I was I had 54 points (I think I had 3 discretionary points for a foreign language). I had no CNA but I had volunteer with patient contact (which I think only PCC cared about) and I had all A's for prereqs. This was my first time applying so I don't know exactly how it all lays out but those are my specs so people can compare and contrast.

But it's weird to me that some are on wait list and some are in and some have no idea.. I feel like they must not be done with notifying.

Maybe they just go down the list and notify each person what their status is.....?

Still nothing wilsosta?

That is annoying. I would think they have stopped for the day… Hopefully tomorrow you will know. So is it they accept 40 and then put everyone else on wait list? Or how does it work?
