Applicants to OCNE 2016-2018

Hello everybody! Long time lurker and first time poster on this site. I was hoping to start a thread to see where everybody is at on their points and etc. Some info about myself I suppose: Applied at PCC, MHCC and CCC, I have experience as a CNA and completed all my pre-req's with 3.9 GPA. Feeling pretty good but not when its compared to 800 other applicants! Thought this would be a good way to see if emails were being sent in the next few weeks and waitlist info. I wish! It was a cofirmation email from ccc, got a similar one from mhcc. Really hoping we all hear from PCC soon. I'm sure processing hundreds of applications isn't easy ;P

I got my essay invite on 3/26/15 last year, so really.. it should be any time for ya'll! Essays at PCC are generally done mid-April. Then you hear about acceptances in May-ish. I got mine on 5/12/15.

Just got my email from PCC, not going to lie... There were some (happy) tears! Now on to preparing for the essay and waiting for the other two.

Pace yourself, and reflect on why you want to be a nurse. Generally speaking, why are you applying to any one of these programs? It's what I practiced writing on before my essay time slot.

Also, take some earbuds. Nothing's worse than trying to think about what you want to write and hear everybody else typing... I thought I didn't need mine, but five minutes in, I was getting so anxious! haha

Congrats to you all! It was really weird being in skills lab, reflecting on the application process today. Crazy that it has been a year. You will all get to this point too :)

PCC: Interview is very easy. You all sit in a computer lab and type answers to two questions which are very basic such as why do you want to be a nurse. Too easy in my opinion.

MHCC: You will interview with 9 others. You all sit in a room with two faculty and introduce yourselves and state why you want to become a nurse... Then individually taken into a room and asked a random question with two minutes to answer, while the rest answer two questions on paper (written essay).

CCC: Hardest interview but in my opinion the one that actually tries to weed out the people sort to speak. 30 min to type an essay to some difficult questions that really make you think. Then you panel interview with 4 other students (also questions that make you really think, nothing dumb like "why do you want to be a nurse").

My opinion: knowing people who attended PCC and MHCC, CCC is by far the best choice for learning and experience and Im glad I get to attend. Our instructors are the best :)

Nothing's dumb about the nursing school application process (especially PCC's), and I know a handful of people who truly hoped to get into PCC's program versus CCC and MHCC. I think it's great to get to know yourself and why you are applying at all, and why any one of these applicants has the motivation and drive to become a nurse. Plus, when I began the program at PCC, instructors acknowledged that there are a lot of things we need to learn. Sure, prior experience gives you a leg up on any one of these interview processes, but your dedication is a huge determinant. The group of students I work with at PCC are some of the smartest cookies I know... regardless of the "dumb" application process we went through. I'm even impressed that instructors have stuck around for 25+ years, and are not the kind of nurses who stick to their old ways, but grow with the development of new techniques and all that.

Anyway, if you are applying to any of the OCNE schools, you are on the right track. PCC, CCC, MHCC, RCC + four others... study hard, finish strong, find a work-life-school balance, and get that ADN and take advantage of the RN-BSN at OHSU/Linfield since you're already co-admitted upon admission to any one of these programs.
