There are nursing shortages at certain times in the year in certain cities and hospitals. It appears to me that with the nursing career, you're better off being available to relocate. Many ppl give up because they live in small no man lands where the jobs are scarce and they assume it is like that all over. If you are unable to relocate, then you probably won't find a job. However, if you will relocate then check out 'medhunters' website. Last I checked there were over 4000 nursing jobs available.

i worked for IHC utah valley regional medical center in provo for about 5 years in the early 90's was hired in 1986 or some year around there. i just got hired and worked there .. never heard of this.. i loved that hospital and the CON is still the same woman when i worked there. i know they only hire RN's at UVRMC they did when i was there. we have the same problem where i work now to many new grads and not enough jobs. i wonder why they make you take that class? it seems like a waste of time to apply there take that class and not have a job..... whatz goin on in utah? do i have to come back??? gees !!!

I am a new graduate RN in the east coast. Only about 1/3 of my class that graduated in May 09 have found a job. So it is true that the state of the economy has affected the hiring of new graduates RN nationwide. I am one of the fortunate ones to have found employment. I talk to my other classmates who didn't. I know it is frustrating for all new graduate nurses. Latest indications are that the economy is starting to rebound. I hope so, so that all these new nurses can be employed. Especially since we all worked to get where we are today. My advise for those that need the income is to take a job to pay the bills, network with other nurses, keep checking facilities for their hiring needs. :)

there is no shortage of nursing graduates, but there is a shortage of experienced nurses!
