Appearance at work

Published

When you work, what is your average appearance? Do you wear a lot of make up? Minimal? Hair styled or cut low key or thrown into a pony tail, etc. Usually I try to style my hair somewhat in a cute up do, some makeup such as a little eyeliner and foundation/lip balm but nothing too much.

I know this is stuff that has been brought up a million times before...but.

The hospital where I work is about to set in place a new uniform (vendor supplied, color and style pre chosen) policy. I'm worried many nurses will be unhappy with this, especially those that prefer cotton and non elastic scrubs.

Anyone work in a hospital where this has been put in place. Is it working, are nurses happy? Has it failed and why?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am on "the committee" and we will also be dealing with the details like shoes, hair and makeup eventually too.

Much Thanks!:)

For work / clinicals, I tone down my normal "goth" makeup... skip the eyeliner entirely, just powder, shadow, mascara. No lipstick, just lip balm.

Scrubs.. all my work pants are black. For tops I tend to go for deep jewel tones. I wear mostly black outside of work, but I think it would disconcert (especially) my dementia patients.

Hair is usually in one braid down my back.

^love that!

I wear pigtails. Seriously.

But not always. Normally I wear makeup (powder, blush, gloss, shadow and mascara.) I usually wear my hair (about 1 inches past shoulder length) up... mostly in a pony, but sometimes in a bun, sometimes in a braid and sometimes in pigtails.

I have 5 small earrings and I wear my wedding band.

My scrubs are all - pants black or navy, tops prints - mostly ocean theme. My shoes are either Brooks running shoes or Crocs (no holes.) And in my old age, I do wear support socks sometimes. ;)

By the by, I do work in peds, or else I'd 86 the pigtails.
