Appealling Gwynedd Mercy ABSN prerequisites

Published

So I just received an email from the Admissions Office at Gwynedd Mercy stating some of my pre-requisites did not transfer over or I just did not complete. I was a Biology major before changing to be an Exercise Science Major so I understand that I have to take Microbiology. My Nutrition course wasn't taught by a Registered Dietician which I also understand why I have to retake it. I am currently scheduled to take Microbiology and Nutrition so I am not really worried about those courses. However the email stated I have to take Organic Biochemistry and Developmental Psychology. When I look at the course description for both courses and compared them to the Psychology and Biology/Chemistry course I already took the courses cover the same exact topics. For the Organic Biochemistry course it transfers to the second Chemistry course I took at the first university I went to. When I transferred to the school I received my undergraduate degree in I had to appeal because the same reason above. & during that time I had send over a copy of my syllabus and those classes were later approved.

My question for Gwynedd Mercy University ABSN is it possibility to appeal or explain to them the situation that the courses are indeed the same just different course numbers?

And why are you asking us rather than Gwynedd Mercy University?

I called today but the Admissions Coordinator I have been in conversation with was out for the day by the time I received the email. Will call first thing in the morning. I just want to know will I come off as unprofessional and rude if I do so?

When I began my BSN program at a respected state school, I was informed that I needed to take freshman History. I had a history degree already, with freshman history I bundled with a government class, both explained very well in the course description, and from our highly ranked state flagship. The Nursing School pushed back, and I was incredulous at the insinuation that I didn't possess enough history education to be a nurse.

It took several meetings with the Registrar to sort it out. I was always very polite and respectful, biting my tongue when I became frustrated. You can't come off as arrogant or impatient.

Good luck.

Thank you for your input! Since I've been through this process before I know having an attitude and being impatient gets you no where. Like my grandma says "You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar." I'll just ask to physically meet with the Admission Coordinator to explain the situation and provide the syllabi if needed. Hopefully it comes out in my favor.
