Hubby and I are looking to move to a place near the A-Trail. Close enough to both find work in any of the above listed venues but wow the trail is so long who in the world knows what is close.
Prefer more the southern part of the country, or from the Carolinas to south. Does anyone work at, or know of a city close to the trail with decent employment?
I can search the web more just takes a long time to go city to state etc and thought I would toss it out to the group.
We want to be able to hike on a regular basis rather than having to pack up all the time but need to find work stability without snow.
Thanks,
renerian
I can SO relate to this post. I took my current job (non-nursing) in part b/c of its proximity to the trail & a gorgeous area.
In Pennsylvania, the trail crosses the Susquehanna and cuts through Dauphin County near my home. Harrisburg is 10 minutes away and has various hospitals. The Hershey Medical Center is about 20 minutes away.
You'd probably be able to enjoy the trail more in SC b/c of the weather but I dream of Maine! :typing
Kittypepper do you belong to the Society of The Trail? Hubby does and it is a very good publication and has various things in there about things going on along different parts of the trail.renerian
Is it associated w/ the AT Club? I have a friend that's in the local chapter & has been trying to get me to join. It's a great idea b/c I haven't been able to enjoy the trail as much as I'd like. My boyfriend doesn't hike (city boy) and there's been a nature trail rapist striking in central PA for sometime now. Since I don't have any weapons, I guess group hiking is the next best thing. :typing
Funny you should post about Maine. I heard it is a beautiful state but I know the state is so North that I think the snow would get to me but hubby is looking at one job up there. Taking him time on that one.
Here is the link for the organization hubby belongs to. I had no clue that you could volunteer and help people along the trail or just volunteer to count species of plants, all kinds of ways to help.

Thank your for the input on the Shennedoah (know I am not spelling it right/big smile) information. I guess having lived in congested metro areas makes something quiet feel so much better.
