Apollo College questions

Published

Hello, I am brand new to this site and I am very impressed.

Apollo College is waiting on their approval for their nursing program here in Reno, NV; therefore, they do not have much listed on their website. Does anyone know how long there nursing program is? Are any pre-req's needed for entry?

Thank you;)

Jessicav,

they have an information session every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00pm. You should call and attend. They are located on Keitzke Lane. They can help with your questions. I also heard an admissions counselor will be available and you can sign up to take the Hesi exam.

The one here in Las Vegas is a 2yr program (including the pre-req). There are no pre-req's required to be admitted. You have to take an exam, an interview, and write an essay. If you do well on all three then you will meet with a financial aid person. the program here is about $45K for an ADN. They do say that they take transfer credits which could lower the cost, however, they have yet to transfer credits for students because their course is not the same as the ones offered at other colleges. At least that is what they said at the Las Vegas one last week. They advised us that it is almost impossible to work during their program because you have to be available. They don't work around your schedule so you can't have any other responsibilities. Other than that I think that is all the info they gave us. Glad to answer any other questions you might have.

Good Luck,

Jessica

I have just been accpeted to the Apollo nursing program here in Reno, NV.

yay!

They have a provisional approval with the NV state board of nursing. The first nursing class needs to sit for the NCLEX and have a successful pass rate to get full approval.

Congratulations MissAmberCNA,

I too got accepted into the second class. However, i will need to turn down my spot next week since i wont receive enough financial aid to attend. Pretty sad .

By second class do you mean the second semester?

Im really sorry to hear that. It is going to be a financial hardship on me as well.

I am taking out a ton of loans and will continue to work part time too. I was not sure I would be able to handle it either, but I am sucking it up to make it work. Now that I finally have a completion date (Dec. 2010!!!) I will just make it work.

I have to say....I am glad there is something else in town though. I am on the waiting list at UNR and WNC and have previously applied to TMCC as well. I am sick and tired of waiting. I have a good GPA too...there is just simply not enough spots in these programs...

Wishing the best for you, Shar81, maybe you can make it happen!

Thanks for the well wishes MissAmberCNA,

I got into the second class since my Microbiology was six years old and all science classes needed to be under 5 years so i needed to take it again before i could get into the nursing classes. I've been waiting a long time for Apollo to come to Reno and now i won't be able to attend. I guess i will try for T.M.C.C's fast track program but i'm hesitant since i've heard of its not so good reputation with instructors and how competitive it is. I still have Touro University in Henderson in mind. Their price is close to Apollo's tuition however i would qualify for loans if I did the Entry level Masters program. It would just be difficult to up and leave since i do have a family here, a job and kids who are in school.

Anyway, good luck at Apollo, I wish you the best too.

Im trying to also get into the Apollo college here in Reno. I have gotten the study and gone through it. Is that enough to be prepared for the entrance Hesi exam?

Yes pretty much. Everything you need to know for the test is in the study guide. Good luck :wink2:

Hi Taren Koren,

Welcome to the allnurses. Well, classes at Apollo will begin August 31st. Clinicals will be held at Renown in Reno. There are three classes starting, 1st, 2nd and 3rd sessions (i was told about 60 spots will be filled). The third session is for those who don't require any prerequisites, they go straight into Nursing classes. The first step is coming in for an information session held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5. After that you will need to schcedule a time to take the Hesi test. Students are given two chances to pass (75%). Once you are done with that then you will be able to meet with the Admissions counselor for an interview and then with financial aid. Financial aid needs to know how you intend to pay for tuition. They wont give you much info untill you meet with them after your Hesi. The tests are scheduled Wednesdays and Fridays and are not too hard. You will be given a calculator to use for the Math portion. The study guide is quite helpful. I bought mine at TMCC's bookstore. There has been over 300 applicants who has applied for this upcoming semester but i think alot of people are deterred by the price. If you already have some pre-reqs then the price is reduced, not too significantly though. You should ask if they are still accepting applications for the August start. Their first deadline was the end of June but the last i heard was that they extended it to the end of July. When you do receive your acceptance letter, you will have about 1 week or less to call and confirm your seat. Good luck with in the process, if you need any more information, i'd be happy to share :typing.

i'm not sure if things are the same in reno, but i looked into apollo here in las vegas. my two major concerns were the tranferability of the courses and the price. getting my associates at apollo would've put me in the work force faster, but if i wanted to get into a np program down the road, i would've had to retake most of those classes because a univeristy won't accept them. when i brought this up in the information(sales) session, the guy tried to brush this off as no big deal and said something about being able to go to the university of phoenix, "no problem". charging the same amount of money in two years on a dead end degree that i'll be spending on my entire undergrad within the university/college system is criminal! examine this institution closely!!!
