apartments with parking space

U.S.A. New York

hey guys, my dilema has come to an end. I chose NYC over L.A. due to a lot of reason, I got a lot of support system in the north east area. and I love NYC.. anyways, I know some of you told me to get rid of my car, I tried.. but the dealer thinks Im stupid enough give my car for an insanely low price he's offering. dont have time to sell it down here coz in leaving next week. so i'm bringing my car with me, and try to sell it up there or keep it, which ever.. but for now, I need to find an apartment that has a parking space. not on the streets. im thinking of living in brooklyn (downtown). wheres the nicest and safest place there? my budget for an apartment will be like $1000/month. can I find a nice place, nice neighborhood with a parking space with that amount? how much does it cost to live in brooklyn heights, DUMBO, park slope??? hope to hear from you guys soon. thanks a lot. ciao!!!

well were glad to have you welcome to ny!!. honestly ny is very expensive i go to school downtown brooklyn near dumbo, brooklyn heights etc.. you will not find an apartment for $1000 a month in downtown brooklyn, honestly! you'll only find apartments that cheap somewhere in brooklyn or the bronx! in an average neighborhood, lofts and condominiums are going up in downtown brooklyn and they are selling for millions!! even here in queens where i live they are building condos and lofts!! some people have roommates and split the bill, others rent rooms!! its very expensive here, look online just search search search, you'll find something!! areas like southwest brooklyn or washington heights, or queens(mostly residential) are nice areas!, rego park qns has aptments!! good luck!!

oh yeah and parking space here in Ny is another story, this city has 8 million people, we've overtaken all of the free space for parking!! usually only houses and private residences have parking garages!! I live in a house and still have to park on the road!! the driveway is about as big as your finger because NY doesnt have much free space!! You can find parking garages but they are pricy too!!

You MIGHT be able to find a studio in downtown Brooklyn for 1500. I pay 1675 for a studio in Bklyn Heights. Park Slope is also one of the more expensive neighborhoods. As far as parking, it's basically luck of the draw unless you want to pay a billion dollars a month for a garage space. It's just how it is.

it really does sounds expensive.. now I want to change my mind and go to LA instead.. but is it worth it.. it sounds like all of your salary is going to the apt and other stuffs.. but do you guys think i'll be able to save a lot too?? thats just my concern.. is the salary in NYC i think its 68K, competetive with the cost of living?

If you are paying $1500+ for an apartment, then um, yea...alot of your money may be going to go there....only YOU can determine whether or not you can save money by how you spend the money you have. There are many areas in NYC where you can spend much less than that if this is a concern to you, but if all you are looking for is apartments in expensive areas, then, welllll.....here is a website you can go to, put in a max and min amount you want to spend on rent, and when you come out here, you can make appointments to check the areas and the apartments out...you can also sort the results according to borough. Take care and good luck.

EDIT TO SAY: In my opinion, I think you can manage in NYC making 68k. There are people who manage here with salaries WAAAAYYY below that

you can find a resonable apt in bedford-stuyvesant, brooklyn. the apts go for around 1400-1500 and they are usually in brownstone houses. people may try and say thats a bad neighborhood, but in all acutallity it is very safe. there is no parking lots or anything like that, we just park on the streets. and bed-stuy is like a 25-30 bus ride from down town bk.
