will you be taking these classes in the summer or fall? I will also be taking A&P 2 and microbiology in the fall...

i found that taking both a&p2 and microbiology was very tolerable. i wasn't "pulling my hair out". it was a fun challenge, and helped that i loved micro. i also took psychology and a computer class at the same time so, i'm sure you will all do fine with them! :)

good luck!!

Ok well then a question for you. What all is microbiology about, besides the obvious diseases. Like what all does it entail (sp)?

microbiology

Learning about pathogens- various kinds i.e bacteria, protozoa, viruses, fungi,

their makeup i.e cell make up, their stain reaction i.e gram + vs gram- and how that info can be used to identify various microbes and diseases.

/aseptic control, HIV, Phylums, Kingdoms,v arious classifications of microbes, Eukaryotes, Prokaryotes, make up of cell wall ie lipopolysacharide cell wall, envelops, etc, different diseases, how they are transmitted, how they are treated, vacinations, antigens, antibodies, specific and non specific immunity etc

I am finding it to be very interesting but it requires a lot of study. It is not hard concepts but a lot of information.

Oh we definitely have to keep in touch! LOL

I commited what I am calling "School-icide" for spring quarter. I am taking A&P 1, micro and research methods/statistics. Although I must admit I've already taken this A&P it was about 6 years ago and I am wanting to just do the 3 series back to back.

I am most worried about micro because it requires 2 lectures and 2 labs weekly, on top of 2 a&p lectures and a lab... plus research methods... ahhhhh!

Good luck!

ditto. you will learn about "microbes", what they are capable of, what makes some of them harder to kill, methods to kill them, and other things. i really loved this class, hopefully you all will too! i loved it so much that if nursing doesn't work out, i won't be discouraged because i know where else my heart lies!

good luck!

how much studying do you do for this class?? because i will be taking micro, a&p ii, general chem, and maybe a math class in the fall :banghead:...so your advice would be appreciated.

Currently I work about 58hrs per week. I am taking Micro w lab, ap2 w lab in person and nutrition on line. I currently have all As but I'm anal.

Regarding micro, I study quite a bit. We will be having an exam tomorrow over 4 chapters. I started to study from last monday. Thursday, i did about 11/2 hrs.Friday about 11/2hrs, Sat about 4 hrs, Sunday about 6 hrs. Tomorrow am, I will wake up at 5:30am and study for about an hour. I will leave work early tomorrow and study for about 2hrs so for this test, as you can see, will have studied about 12hrs give or take and this is suppose to be an easier test. This doesn 't include 3-4hrs listening to the lectures I tape.

Last exam, I prob. studied about 15-18hrs for the test. It is not hard but there is alot of information to study and process. Our labs only last about 20-30mins and it is for 1hr 15mins. I usually stay behind and study or join study group for lecture during this time to so it is more studying.

AP2, I don't study near as much as I do for Micro but i still study. I know o ther students who have a harder teacher and they have to put in more time

good luck. I don't think that you will have a life and give up your weekends. It's doable but school and books will own you.

RN2b, do you work? if you do, I would consider not taking one of the classes you listed. It requires alot of study time if you want to get As. If you don' t work or work 20hrs, then maybe.
