I am interested in an outpatient oncology infusion position posted at the Morris center at Duke- anyone know the pay range on Duke jobs? WakeMed posts the ranges, but I cannot find out about Duke or UNC.

Please feel free to PM me

Okay, I will probably get flogged by saying this but here it goes,...

I am working at Duke Raleigh and I love it for the most part. They are a small (150 bed) hospital in near Wake Forest and it seems to be personable and sincere to it's nursing staff. My manager is great, the assignments are fair and the charge nurses have a light load to support the staff with full loads and in my experience, they do. The pay is everybit as comparable to UNC and WAke med. I have heard the same things mentioned in this thread about UNC and Wake Med hospitals! I think it is based on what you want, what your job satisfaction priorities are and how you view the management. I have worked at non magnet and magnet hospitals and I do agree that this is a little hyped up. I think you have to keep your options open for all the hospitals and not base your judgement totally on how others view it. You will know if you ask enough questions and see how things operate.....

Hey guys! Well I am finished with interviewing. And the pay rates are as follows: Durham Regional and Duke Hospital is $19.58 for new graduates. And UNC is $19.75. Also durham regional is suppose to have a pay increase in July. Have a wonderful day. Erica

Hey there friends:

We are most probably moving to Durham in the next 3-4mos. I am a PICU RN with 14 years of nursing experience. I also have my CCRN in peds. I was excited about the PICU opportunities out there- UNC/Duke, but am concerned about some of the comments out there about pay/job satisfaction. I have been around the block enough to know there are lots of moans and groans everywhere about those things.

Any of my PICU buddies have any advice for me? I am anxious to hear from you!

May I suggest working as a traveler, or per diem? This way you may work at several hospitals and choose the best match for you. Travel positions may be in your favor. Often you may choose the Contract length, as hospitals are willing to work with workers and get them in the door. Be leary of "BIG" sign on bonuses for a permanent job. They are there for a reason. Take a dry run from the parking lot to the hospital and then back again on the shift or shifts you would be working! It may surprise you to learn the extra hour or more added to your travel time waiting for a bus. More so in the evening. Call HR dept and ask them the pay rate, insurance infor. for a permanent position. Have pen and paper in hand as you call local hospitals with all the questions you have. Good luck and a pre welcome to you!!!
