Since I never hear back from hosipitals I started to send my resume to agencies and TLC. This week I got my first interview ever for a nursing job at first health care. Wondering how it's like working for this agency, they didn't give me a chance to ask questions~
Sweetjot: Have you considered trying long term care. In some facilities, you would not be on your own as much there and they may offer you some orientation.
I did, I'm really interested in LTC, it's my #1 choice acctually. I'm handing out resumes to all the homes that I can find, so far there is only 1 reply:(
yes, i've worked for first health care...they used to be "firstaff" in unionville/markham area. was my very first job! i loved it at first, they only really sent to nsg homes, but there were lots of contracts...rockcliffe, community, belmont house, etc and thats the only kind of nursing i could handle at that time... then by ~ 2005 work started to dwindle more and more, as more international nurses came to work in toronto (as well as other reasons, just less work to go around as ppl. started taking jobs f/t at the new homes being built)...needed agency less. i start accepting shifts further and further away and more evening/ nights. now there is absolutely nothing. (sorry!!) they were one of the first nursing agencies to be severely affected by less use of agency as jobs slowly got taken. they have really no work at all...the last time i spoke with them, they told me they almost never place nurses, just psw's.
i'm glad i got my start with them though...they were a nice clean company and they had good human resources and you could rely on them for references, letters of work history, etc.
good luck, keep looking, you will find...
