I've randomly noticed that the positions in PP are NP & clerical type positions I was wondering if anyone worked in one? I've got some questions; Are there lpn's working there? etc. Also, in women's health, any lpn's? I can't seem to find this sort of thing here in Az. May be the scope of practice.
I don't believe that PPs hire LPNs, only RNs (in their facilities that perform surgical abortions) and NPs.
I worked at PP over 10 years ago after graduation, it was a surgical site. Back then (not sure what is policy not) we had a NP who did regular gyn care, paps, std screening, infection, birth control ect, a MD, who over saw the clinic, and did prenatal care (very few prenatal patients though). There was an RN who would come in on surgery days and monitor the women as they recovered from their procedure, she was also the one who dispensed the medications. All of the other positions were filled by basically MA's, but no formal training or certification was required. Again, I don't know what the policy is now. This was also in the clinic in Tempe, and not the main surgical site in Phoenix. Interesting place back then, if you have any questions feel free to email or pm me.

I worked as an NP at PP years ago. We did have LPN's working in the recovery area on abortion days. They also had to handle and dispose of the products of conception. I would suggest you volunteer first to be sure you are okay with working with groups of women and their partners who are there for abortions. The posts use the euphemisms we all used : "surgical" area, " recovering from their procedure.." But you need to look carefully at the fact you will be assisting women who are having abortions.
I personally am PRO CHOICE to the max but still did not enjoy working on the abortion days in the abortion clinic. I only worked in the family planning clinics. It's emotional and can be draining even on those who are very supportive of women's choice. Just spend some time there first.
Good luck!
