Does anyone here work for nursing by demand? there was an ad in the paper and they called me for an interview but i was just curious if anyone worked for them? I Know it's agency nursing and that they mostly fill LTC facilities. she said there is a lot of driving involved. mostly i just wondered on the average pay? do they pay for milelage or travel? are you offered a lot of shifts or does it reallly vary a lot? I'm going to be going back to school in Oct for my RN so i was just looking for someting prn or part time that will work around my schedule since my school times will vary depending on clinicals, and classes per term. thanks!

The onlything I doon't care for about crisis care is there is not much actual nursing involved you are pretty much an aide unless the crisis care is in the persons home. I know I work through an agency that is contracted with Hospice of Dayton as well and I get sent to the IPU a lot! I work through Maxim and they are killing me! I cant be in enough places at the same time for them they have so much work!
I dont mind crisis care but I dont care for Maxim because their pay is too low for me. I know that most place( basically all) go off of experience. It is my experience that when people dont tell you how much a place pays they say" it all depends on experience"
Agencies normally have a flat rate for what they pay RN's and LPN's, CNA's. The only variables I have seen are for weekend differentials, offer more money if no one wants to go to certain place, bonuses and such, and specialties/.I have never seen an agency determine pay on experience ( ie how long you have been a nurse)You are required to have atleast 1 year in your specialty to work there.
a NICU nurse of 4 years and a NICU nurse of 20 years get the same pay.
No offense to anyone who has posted, I just get tired of going to an agency to work ( in your mind you are thinking" good money") but when you get there and fill out all that paper work they tell you " you will making $15 for pediatric cases 1:1"....it was a waste...I cant live off of 15 bucks. It was a waste of my time.i think if you tell people the pay grade up front then people can decide for themselves if they want to come in and apply.Everyone is happy
Shannon...I completely agree with you about places telling you pay up front! It would make things much easier to decide if that type of pay would be worth the time, effort and driving for each person. In TX i only make $15 and it sucks. I have to make more than $18 when i move back to ohio because of the differences in cost of living!
I never applied at Maxim, Interim or any of the bigger companies because of that. And it does suck too to get in the door like you said, do all that paperwork just to be told you are making way less than you thought you would.
I've still been sending my resumes to different places since i'M 30 days from being back in ohio...mostly home health (since that's what i've done the longest) but i really want to get some more experiance in different specialties, only i'm looked at as brand new then and if they done want to train well, then i'm left out in the cold or looked over. sigh....oh well i'll keep looking.
I also applied to Home Care Network...anyone hear anything about them?
I am looking forward to working for Nursing By Demand. They are waiting on my background check. I also work for another agency and there isn't any support. You know that if you run into a situation with NBD you can call and they will talk you through it. It would be ideal to work there every weekend but they may or may not have hours. I am hoping that with two agencies I can get one shift a weekend. I am in a full time RN program and am only off Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It made me feel great to read that they are so excellent.
I applied there, had an awesome interview, took some of the tests and never heard from them again. I was so mad. I called and emailed my recruiter and he never returned anything. I really thought that was unprofessional. I really thought I had a shot with them. Hope nobody goes through what I went through with them.
Hi Ryan,
I interviewed on 7-29-09. I apologize for the things I wrote here, but I was upset. It would be great if you could help me out. I gave up after my emails and phone calls went unanswered. Thanks and I do apologize for what you saw on here. I hope we can get in contact somehow.
