Anyone work at GRADY MEMORIAL in Atlanta?

Does anyone work at GRADY MEMORIAL? I am moving to Atlanta the end of next year and am hoping to get a job at Grady because I know the learning there is priceless. I have been doing research about the hospital and realize the past 10-13 years have been difficult and they are undergoing some serious changes. I was wondering what it is like to work there and if any change is noticeable yet. I will be looking for RN work in the ICU or their awesome trauma/ER with only about 1 year experience in med-surg. Any information anyone is willing to offer up would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone im a new grad and ive been looking for employment in Atlanta and ive applied to EVERY hospital and Grady a week ago... but it wasnt for their new grad residency it was for a staff nurse position... is this how you guys got hired?

I am a new grad and RN licensed here in GA. I applied in Grady for a staff nurse position more than a week ago but I have not heard any reply yet. I checked it out on their website again; they are using a new employment application tool which is different from the one I used when I submitted my application. I am interested to work thru their nursing residency program.

Do I need to call the nurse manager/recruiter to know the status of my application? How did you do your application process guys to get a job in grady?

Hey did you apply for staff nurse position or did you apply for the residency??? When I called they said they weren't taking new grads till December....

Hey there I did the same thing you did I applied for staff nurse positions as well...when I called up there in August they said they weren't taking new grads till December but I see there are still individuals that are getting hired regardless...I've been looking all summer and it's becoming so depressing!!! When I call up there now NO ONE answers their desk phones.

I currently work at Grady on a med-surg unit. some say its one of the harder departments to work in because they are so understaffed. I get anywhere from 7-10patients. I would say a typical night is 7-8 patients and atypical is 6 or less and 9 or more but the last 3 nights i worked i have had 9 and 10. I went to grady straight out of school and the orientation is good but the learning experience as far as precepting really just depends who you are assigned to, if anyone. I was never assigned to one person. I have been there a year now and I am looking to transfer off medsurg or move to a different hospital. I also love/hate grady. I hate the way they treat their med surg nurses (can speak to other depts) but its such a good learning experience and I have excellent time management skills and they say once you can work at grady you can work anywhere, and other facilities looks at that experience as like a medal of honor since you work in such rough conditions with VERY sick patients. The medsurg patients i have, well they would probably be on step down units at other hospitals, most of them at least. Hope that helps!

I never filled out either application because I started as an extern there. When my extern was ending they just transferred my status over to staff nurse. I am in the residency program there though because from my understanding every new grad goes into the residency, but yea they only hire new grads twice a year I think because there are a lot of classes I go to and the training is expensive for grady so new grads are all bunched together in these classes.

Has anyone worked in L & D at Grady? I would imagine it would be very busy as well- where time management would be critical. I noticed today that they have some positions in the Family Birth Center- what exactly is this dept?

Hey, I'm in my final year of my nursing degree in th UK and I really would like to apply for a job at GRADY. Does anyone know how easy (or hard) it is to get a job there as a new graduate or whether its better to get some experience over here before applying. Also does anyone know whether they hire many foreign trained nurses?

They do take new grads, but only during certain times so they can collaborate the residency program. The hardest thing is getting that interview. You might have to physically go up there and talk to some of the head people to get hired in a reasonable time or else you'll probably be waiting around the phone for weeks , Grady is slow at spending money on any kind of resources nursing staff included. Don't worry about experience but they do get alot of applicants so it really comes down to your interview skills. They take foreign trained as well just make sure you get your license in the state before bothering applying. Apply for residency and extern too . Extern is 3 months of training and then they decide to keep you or not. If I were you I would actually focus more on the Extern position it is in your best interest because it is a steep learning curve working here and the extra training eases you into it. Good luck
