I do. And I'm starting to detect hints of jealousy with my fellow CNA's. I went home crying tonight because I'm so utterly frustrated with how my coworkers treat me. I come in, do my job, rarely take a full break, help everyone else out, treat the residents & my coworkers with respect and just because I'm not buddy buddy with everyone, i get **** on-even by some of the nurses.
I dont get it.
Thanks. I just needed to vent to people that might understand.

I know that a lot of students work as CNAs while in NS. It's a really good idea because of the experience.
I find, as sad as it is, most people who aren't "close" don't exactly appreciate our personal accomplishments. For almost anything positive about myself, I've learned to keep it low key and save it for the people who truly care about me. I know this might sound cynical, but this is how I've handled myself. For the people who know me as a CNA, I'm a CNA. No more talk, no more action than that of CNA. For my LPN program, I'm in the LPN program the same way, and not many people even know my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner or that I start my RN the semester following my LPN graduation.
In essence, keep it low key. And smile within as you achieve your goals, but remain true to the present at the same time. Don't "threaten" the nurses, and don't "offend" the other aides by talking about your plans, and again, sad that this is my advice, but what I've experienced. Good luck.
seee that's the problem because that's what i do. people there ask me all the time about how school is going and i tell them. then i drop it. but thank you for the response!

Ugh. Nursing homes are like Drama Birthing Centers. Just keep plugging at it and ignore the fools that are jumping on you.
The best revenge is to finish nursing school, pass the NCLEX and leave those jokers in the dust to ponder their sorry lives...

I worked as a cna throughout nursing school. Now I have graduated, pass the Hesi, and now waiting to take the NCLEX this month. It was hard to juggle a full time job, a family, and the bills. But it worked out. My advise is keep your head in the books, study hard and do well. Do not worry about what anybody else thinks. (Just remember your goals, and your dreams. The big pay check doesnt hurt either.)

yes, i understand. you are stuck in two worlds. you are a nurse assist and nurse student. your co- workers are jealous that you are making a bold new life for yourself and the nurses see as someone who does know jack!! it sucks even more when you grad are waiting to take your test, and you still have to work as an aide! i love being an aide! but i hate that there is a distinct difference in how each are treated with the lil clicks!! i am stuck between both right now. i have one co worker who has taken four years and is still no where near finished her rn and still works as a aide and tells me all the time not to forget where i came from! i reply by telling her that i know where i started at and what i am becoming. i know i will not work as a nurse where i am now. i need to make a fresh start. i also did my precepting there also, so it is very hard. i have a lil more respect from my nurses. sadly some nurses see aides as glorified butt wipers or people who can not cut it as a nurse and they are beneath them. i feel it makes you a better nurse, unless you forget how hard of a job it is to be a nursing assistant! some nurses sadly grow cold from not enough patient contact, others just turn into donkeys. the good ones, they still know they should be helping the entire health care team. that is who i am and who i will be. have a great day. good luck.

I'm working as a CNA right now while in nursing school. Fortunately my fellow CNA's and other nursing staff are very supportive of me. It is true what they say is that the CNA's who give you a hard time is because they know you're going to succeed and that's why they do it. They can't do it for whatever reason and since they can't do it, they get on you over it. Don't let them get you down because the tables will be turned eventually where they will have to report to you. Good Luck

I worked as a CNA all during nursing school. If I had a problem, some of my fellow CNAs would stand up for me and remind the troublemaker that I would end up being their supervisor before too long...hehehehe. Plus, the nurses I worked with were always eager to take me with them when they did fingersticks and insulins, wound care, catheterizations, and any other nursing procedures.

I just got finished doing the prereq's at my school for nursing school which was a CNA course. I barely have the time to study now-- while unemployed but do to the extra costs of the nursing program at my school I need to work. I was wondering if anyone who is working as a CNA while attending nursing school has any tips. As for the previous poster I have heard about some CNA's being a little jealous of the CNA's that are in nursing school. That is a shame to me because in the end we ar all there for the patients.I haven't had to personally deal with this but I felt a little of this when we went to clinicals as CNA's. Some of the CNA's seemed like they didn't want to be bothered with us because they knew we wre on the track to becoming nurses.

i am done my nursing school in december and have worked as an aide all year long, it is very true what the others are saying co-workers will get jealous because you are going to further your education but hey dont worry about them!! Ever hear the saying appreciate your haters?LOL. take it as a compliment! Thats how i think about it because i have had people make jealous comments to me and it used to bother me,now i just ignore it. You are bettering yourself and feel proud about it!! I feel that working as an aide throughout school was very helpful to me and i gained a lot of experience. Just remember to smile, be positive and know that when you are a nurse you will treat the aides with respect because you know how hard they work!:nuke:

I work as an aide and am in school right now too. I get a mixed reaction at my work. Some people are very supporting, but I've also gotten a lot of "OH, you're only going for your LVN? Why are you wasting your time. You should just go straight for the RN...." and it continues. Just because that's what worked for them.
There's also an RN student on another unit who is working as an aide (not a CNA, just there because of her student status) who is a complete witch about people doing their VN program and having their CNA instead of going straight to RN. She keeps implying she'll be a better nurse for it and deliver better care.
I hope I never have the displeasure of working with her again--she'll be one of the ones to walk all over the aides when she's done with her program.
