Anyone waiting for letter from Western Carolina ABSN or traditional BSN track?

Published

The wait is excrutiating! I just want to see if anyone wants to share the wait. I guess we should be getting a letter in the mail by next week, I was just hoping they may have gotten them out early... I applied to both programs. I would love to hear from other hopefuls!

I am applying for the next cycle and would like to know what the overall applicant poll who were granted an interview were like, for example: age, gpa (undergrad, prereq), work/volunteer experience.

I will graduated in a couple months with a B.A. in biology with a 3.2 overall gpa.

My prereq gpa is not too bad either but not great :( I know I'm not the most academically gifted student but I truly enjoy what the profession encompasses and feel in love with it while volunteering at the local hospice and hospital.

  • Chemistry 132 - Introductory Chemistry (4 hours) A in course, A in lab
  • Chemistry 133 - Survey Organic/Biochemistry (4 hours) B in course, B in lab
  • Biology 291 - Human Anatomy-Physiology (4 hours) B in course
  • Biology 292 - Human Anatomy-Physiology (4 hours) B in course
  • HSCC 260 - Etiology of Infectious Disease (3 hours) B in course
  • Psychology 150- General Psychology (3 hours) A in course

should I retake any courses to increase my chances?

any response is greatly appreciated.

Your grades look fine; I wouldn't re-take any classes. The best thing for you to do is to talk to Dr. Chapman about your concerns. The applicant pool is different every year and the ages and career experiences and degrees are different as well. However, a degree in biology with a 3.2 seems competitive to me:) Do well on the TEAS exam and the interview. I think it is important that you want ot enter the field of nursing and feel that this is a career in which you will love (very important criteria!!) Best of luck!

Thank you FuturenurseNC for replying. The only reason why I am so concerned about the gpa is because on the school site it said that gpa was a 50% determining factor. Do you have any tips on how to do well on the TEAS?

Congrats on getting in :)

to futurenurse and bel613!

congrats to getting into ABSN at Western. Its getting competitive! I'm in the process of applying now, didn't get into Duke's ABSN :( do you guys mind sharing what your credentials were as accepted applicants...like gpa, TEAS, and were your pre-reqs done or in progress while you were applying? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hey everyone, I have an awesome update. I just received an interview for the ABSN program. I'm nervous and was wondering if anyone had any pointers. I also have a question about housing. Does anyone have suggestions on where to live if you are a single female with limited income?

congratulations misanonymous. I got my interview invitation today too. I was on what seemed liked an alternate interview list because the first email I got said I had not been selected to interview but would be notified if spaces opened up. Apparently spaces did open up and I will be interviewing on Oct 15. Im nervous though because of my initial alternate status. When are you interviewing?

Hey alipearson16! Omg what a coincidence, I didn't get an initial email for any alternate list but I did receive an invitation for Oct 15th too :) We might even get to meet haha. I am so nervous because my gpa and teas were not as competitive as they could have but I have a lot of experience working and volunteering in different healthcare settings.Western Carolina was my first and only choice. I am so nervous. Congrats and I hope we both get in!

Can anyone also tell me a little bit about the financial aid available for the ABSN program? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks :)

howd you interview go?! im already tired of wating ha

I just found this thread and was curious whether any of you ended up going through the ABSN program? If so, how was it? Also if you wouldn't mind sharing your GPA and TEAS scores? I'm currently waiting to hear about an interview and am just wondering what my chances are. Like a few of you said, Western is my first and only choice!

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
