Anyone waiting for letter from Western Carolina ABSN or traditional BSN track?

Published

The wait is excrutiating! I just want to see if anyone wants to share the wait. I guess we should be getting a letter in the mail by next week, I was just hoping they may have gotten them out early... I applied to both programs. I would love to hear from other hopefuls!

Hey there! I have applied to both programs too and am anxiously waiting for those letters! I've been having dreams about it every night so I'm just about ready for the real thing!

Good luck! How did you feel about the interview? I am so glad it is behind me, but I worked really hard to prepare for applying to the ABSN program. I think some of the students applying to the fast track also applied to East Tenn University's ABSN program and they have already sent out acceptance letters... Gosh, I hope we hear this week! Let me know if you get your letter/letters!

The interview was more relaxed than I was anticipating, so that was relieving! Yeah I've met a few people who have already been accepted to ETSU - not the accelerated program but the traditional track. I am at the point of just wanting to know! Already checked my mail today and there was nothing. Maybe tomorrow! How did you get interested in nursing and why WCU?

I have thought about nursing for so many years, I just couldn't stomach going back to school for so long... I started taking a few classes towards ABTech's ADN program several years ago (general ed classes they req'd that I didn't have) and later, I found out about the fast track program. I want my BSN as I may eventually want to get a masters, so WCU is my first choice over ABTech. I applied to ABTech as well, because I know I want to be a nurse. I just feel like it was the profession I was meant to be in, I can't exactly explain it. I love taking care of other people, I love being in the hospital setting- it feels right to me. I am taking the CNA course now and even though I am pretty sure I won't work in a nursing home, I love taking care of these sweet (and sometimes grumpy) elderly folks. The time flies when I am there, and I want to stay and paint the ladies' fingernails when it is time to leave. SO, I am just waiting for those letters to figure out what my options are!!!

I thought the interview was pretty relaxing as well, but it took me until halfway through to figure out that it was a situation where I could be myself. I felt like WCU would be a great fit for me as I liked the professors I met in the interview. Did you get today's email? Hmmmm... I won't run to the mailbox tomorrow! Why do you want to be a nurse, and why WCU?

We share a similar story! I looked back to when I first signed up to be a member with allnurses.com and it was back in 2005. I was half way through with my first undergrad degree and taking a nursing assistant course at the same time. It felt so right! I loved working with patients and I felt fulfilled about what I was doing. I decided to finish my undergrad in anthropology because I loved it too and wanted to get as much out of it as I could. I then came to realize nursing and anthropology make a great combo! When I graduated, I ended up landing a job working as a wilderness instructor (another love in my life) and did that for a couple of years - all the time coming to realize the role I usually picked up without even knowing it... taking care of people! So, with that line of working becoming increasingly exhausting (nomadic, hardly a life outside of the woods), I decided it was time to pick up and resume my pursuit of nursing. I am very excited that I have made it this far. Even though I always had nursing in the back of my head, for me it just took time until I knew I was ready to take the commitment. I recognize now that I naturally take care of people, no matter what line of work. I guess I just needed time to realize that is really who I am. I took the time to explore other things and came right back to nursing. Yay! So that is the WHY of nursing for me... and now, why WCU? I too want a BSN because I want to go on to gain my master's. I love the mountains here in WNC - I have been traveling up to this part of the country since I was a little girl and always have loved it. I finally moved up here when I got the job as a wilderness instructor and decided to stay. I too was pleased with the instructors I met at the interview and feel it would be a good match for me.

Yes I got that email. I am glad they are going to give us some type of warning! I hope we get it before next week though, time is slipping by!

If you get into the traditional program are you going to move down to Cullowhee or will you commute for the first year? I am trying to decide what seems like the best option...

It's great getting to know you!!

That's an awesome story about how you came to the point of realizing nursing was the right career for you! When I start nursing school, I am so eager to hear how other students came to choose nursing.

If I do the traditional track, I will stay in Asheville- I have children and my husband is not relocatable, so I will make the commute. I spoke with a professor from the traditional track and he said that classes are only three days a week, and clinicals are two days a week, and arrangements can be made for students who commute to do thier clinicals close to where they live. AND, the second year on the tradional track is all in Asheville!! It doesn't sound like it would be too difficult to commute. How about you? I have gone back and forth about what is the best program for me, and I just feel like I want to do the fast track, if I get in. I do have to balance family obligations, but I manage my time well, so I know I can do it. It would be so much easier to make a decision if I knew what programs I have been accepted to!! I think we will get letters on Saturday or Monday. I am so excited! Let me know when you hear!! Have a great weekend of I don't hear from you. I have enjoyed learning about you and hope I get to meet you soon!

Yeah, if I do the traditional track I will probably stay in Asheville too. I just don't want to have to move back and forth once the second year rolls around. I have gone back and forth on which program is best for me too - I would love to do the accelerated just because of less time in school but on the other hand the traditional gives summers off and chances to do international nursing as a student. I will be happy with either but my preferences do lie with the accelerated. I'm betting Monday for the letters - we haven't gotten an email yet today but I'm expecting one tomorrow - does the mail here in Asheville process so fast for it to be here on Saturday if they send it on Friday? Whew! I just can't wait!

Hey, bel613, did you get your letter? Just wondering if you got in or not... Let me know!! :)

Hey there!!

I got mine Friday and I made it!!!! I feel like now that all the waiting is over, the real work begins :)

Me too- I got in, as well! My husband and I are trying to figure it all out. I REALLY want to do the accelerated program and I am pretty sure I will. I guess I only have five days to decide:) Congratulations!!!!

Congrats to you too!!!! I know it is a lot to think about so good luck to you and your husband! I hope we get to be classmates! We definitely will need each other's support the whole way through :)
