Hi Everyone!
I am a student currently taking my prereqs for the nursing program at Suffolk County Community College. Are there any others here at Suffolk? I was hoping to find some other ladies/gents that are currently studying there so we could get to know one another and maybe chat about our experiences. Anyone?? :)
When did you start taking your pre-reqs for the program? I started at Suffolk not realizing how long it was going to take me before I could even apply, but the time actually went quickly. Good Luck!
Hi there,
This is my first semester. So I started in January. I guess I am a little... ummm ANXIOUS lol to get started in the nursing program. When did you start?

I started fall '09 with just the intention to take the pre-reqs for nursing. I ended up getting motivated and took all the pre-reqs for stony brook nursing as well. I'm going to graduate in May with an associates in liberal arts from Suffolk and this coming fall, will start a nursing program at either stony brook or Suffolk. I swear the time does go by fast!

I'm going to make some calls starting tomorrow to see what I can do (if anything) in order to get into a program in 2012. We shall see! Congrats to you for finishing your prereqs and I wish you LOTSA luck getting into SBU or SCCC Nursing!
Same goes to you Buckeroo!
Here is another idea, although some of the options may be pretty expensive, I know some folks who were pressed for time and took courses either through the SUNY online network, which is all the SUNY schools that offer online courses, or through a school like Phoenix Univ. Obviously SUNY schools give you more bang for the buck, but Phoenix (and similar schools) have unique schedules that might help you out. But please talk to someone to make sure those courses will accomplish what you want to do.
Also, I know one of the programs at SCCC starts in the Spring (Grant evening perhaps???) so that might have a better application time frame. Hang in there!!!!
Since you were actually able to find you HS Chem score (my graduation was so long ago, my diploma is in the Smithsonian!) it is a little more recent than mine, and KJM is right, time will go more quickly than you think now. Also, you can broaden your scope and use the time to take the additional prereqs needed for SBU's 2 year BSN and also apply to that, increasing your chances of getting into one of these crazy competitive schools. Soon yo will be like the rest of us, chewing your fingernails down to the stubs waiting to here from either of these great programs!!!!
Thanks to both of you and I can't wait to hear from you about your chosen schools -- I'll bit me nails too for you guys!! I called SCCC yesterday and there is a Nursing Info Seminar this friday at Grant so I will be attending and see how I can get everything I need to get done -- DONE and hopefully in the program (or another one) in 2012!! Can't wait to hear you got your ACCEPTANCE letters!
