hi everyone....it's official. i finally am cpne eligible. still gotta finish a couple classes, but i'm finally within enough credits to take the cpne.
i am so ecstatic! anyone here getting ready to take the cpne? where are you going? i can't decide where to go, somewhere in wisconsin probably since it's close to where i live.
i've heard good things about all the sites, but esp madison and racine. so i'll have to decide so i can send in my app! it's all complete, except for the huge amount of money that needs to be attached to it. gulp.
anyways, i am so happy i am nearing the end of this journey. i have learned so much, and i am just ready to be done already! lol!
anyone take a workshop that they thought was great? i am considering taking one, though i don't really have the money. my clinical skills are pretty good, but i still got the skills bag and will be setting up the lab stations so i can practice it the way they want it to be done.
i took the online documentation and care planning courses, they helped a little, but were so short, i am still unsure on a lot of things. they do their care plans a lot different then in the hospital!
anyways, just excited that i've made it this far! anyone who can share their success stories and tips, or those who are also studying for the cpne...wanna share study tactics?

I'm a CPNE survivor. I would definitely recommend the CarePlan workshop offered by Chancellor's. It starts on a Monday and ends Friday. You will have to go to Fishers, Indiana (a suburb of Indianapolis) and they have many price ranges of motels where you can stay. The cost of the workshop is $800, and I have to say, worth every penny. Some brag they didn't use any workshop to pass but I feel better having gone to this workshop because they give such good study tips and strategies I would not have thought of on my own.
Good luck.

thanks for your reply! i barely could scrape up the 500 dollars to send with my application. i wanted to go to a workshop, but i doubt i'm gonna be able to come up with the money to do it. plus, i wouldn't have anyone to watch my kids. sigh. why can't i just win the lotto? lol....i know that a workshop would help me feel better about my skill level, but i have to face the fact that i most likely will not be able to afford it. on top of being a single mom to two preschoolers, i have a ton of medical problems that have basically disabled me this past year. chronic pain due to multiple herniated discs (from work), kidney damage and heart damage due to lupus, pain from a compression fracture, terrible migraines, anasarca that comes on unexpectedly and lasts for days (that no one can figure out what from), i'm just a mess. i've had to cut down my days to two a week, and that does not pay all my bills. i have maxed my credit cards paying for ec.
so, anyways, thanks for replying!

The workshop provided by excelsior is pretty good. Remember they are the ones you have to pass the cpne on. And there workshop I found to be very helpful. It is also expensive 700.00 plus airfair, ect
good luck, I test in two weeks

I just applied for CPNE.I don't have any hospital experience. Any suggestions on how to get some? What about volunteer at a local hospital? Please help me out. Thanks
hmm, i don't know how you could get hospital experience. maybe see if a hospital near you has a nurse extern program? do you live near a large teaching hospital? i found they are usually more open-minded about allowing stuff like that.
i don't work in a hospital either, but on my unit, i can utilize all the skills that are needed for the cpne. lots of iv experience, dressing changes, assessments and managments to be done. where do you work? i have seen people pass cpne without hospital experience, so i know it can be done. can you get the skills bag and set up a lab in your house? i've done that. they even have a simulation wound in their new skills bag, though i know a lot of people just made their own.
what kind of experience do you have? are you an lpn, or a medic? a RT?
whatever you do, don't give up. you need to think positive! as hard as it is, and as easy as it is to doubt yourself and your skills, you can't! you simply cannot sell yourself short. where did you apply to test? maybe we can help each other out a bit?
i'm taking the onine skills lab this month, last month i took care planning, and documentation. those really helped me learn what they want from me. i am glad i did it early so i can focus on the right way to do things from earlyon. you could also attend a workshop, that would maybe help you feel better about your skills.
maybe pm me and i can help you out with what i can, just let me know. i don't want to take up so much forum space. good luck to you. if you want, pm me, and i'll share my email and we can communicate that way, ok? keep your chin up!! hey, you made it all the way to the cpne didn't you? you can do this!
sorry, double post.
