anyone NOT roll an ankle in Danskos professionals?

Alright I admit it, I'm spooked, positively SPOOKED after reading other threads about how people constantly roll their ankles in these, but overlook it b/c of the other good points!

I rolled my ankle bad back in 2008. (foot was completely asleep I was sitting on it typing a patho and got up fast to get something not realizing foot was asleep  ...yeah anyway, I heard my ankle crack I was barefoot mind you. My son heard so many expletatives strung together, it would have made a sailor blush (mind you he didn't come to "see" if I was okay, just yelled down, "mom are you okay?" yeah, thanks for the concern. At least the dog tried to look helpful. So then my husband called and told me to ice it, did I? no, I didn't think it was "that" bad....yeah, more

Back in the day, missing clinicals was not an option so I aced it stuffed it into my Merrill jungle crocs (crap shoes comparatively) and carried on. It took near a year, maybe a little more for the ankle to not have the fluid sac below the bone. 6-7 mos after that, I rolled it again mildly stepping out of a suv on uneven pavement. (yes, I was in espadrilles but that's not the point :D) So I don't know that I have "weak" ankles per se.

Now that you got the backstory. Like I said in my other thread, since then (and before) I've not had rolling issues. And I do freq wear really high (I'm talking 3.5-4in) shoes. Some on wooden platform heels, some on narrow wooden wedges, some stilletos,espadrilles...etc..you get the idea.

In my past job, I needed to sprint 200 ft down the opposite hall to keep someone from escaping their broda chair ;) I did that just fine in my sketchers shape ups. Now at this job, my unit is small. 9 bed, not a very long hall. I've never seen anyone run yet, even during a code, I've only seen some pretty fast hustle!

I know this can be a YMMV. I've read where some people felt the shape ups are unstable and can roll in them. Honestly, I can't figure that out. To me, they are super stable I would have to intentionally try to roll it and even then...I just can't see it. Standing around in the Dansko's and the mild walking (only had them on in the store) they seem okay b/c I'm always testing a work shoe's "rollability" b/c I'm spooked from my past incident, but maybe I'm missing something.

So can anyone say they haven't experienced rolling in these? That's just not something I can afford to overlook even if the other points are good.

i've been wearing danskos exclusively since i injured my knees (dad was right -- i was too old to ice skate, but i digress) in 2000. a physical therapist recommended that i wear either danskos or birkenstocks, and i tried both. the birkenstocks were very uncomfortable to me; the danskos felt great from the get-go. it seems to depend on your individual feet. i have friends that swear by birkenstocks.

i haven't rolled in them except the time i was foolish enough to try to hurry to catch a bus while walking on cobblestones, but you can't blame the danskos for that. i can run in them, to the extent that i can run at all, but i'm 55 and overweight with bad knees and a bad back. i run to codes -- have given up running to catch buses. there will be another one. (bus i mean, but probably codes, too.)

i hesitate to tell you how many pairs of danskos i have -- at one time i lived near a store that sold discontinued styles for $25. that doesn't happen anymore! i have dansko boots, sandals -- even "pumps".

Hey thanks Ruby,

I agree about the comfort. I didn't think they'd be comfortable but they looked so cool (I got the emerald tiger eye) When I tried them on, they were a size smaller and my toes were crunched. I tried the larger size but since I could feel the heel flop (now I see that's what they should do!) I thought they'll be a no go, but the longer I kept them on (I wore them for a while in the store in stead of the usual, put them on and do a stroll) the more I liked them. I love how the arch support feels on my arch. The band part aross the top feels noticible but not bad, we'll see if it rubs after a real wearing.

Thanks for the cleaning info on the other thread, I will check that out. I thought I read something about cleaning the w/soap and water so maybe that will do.

I'm a guy, 35. For whatever that's worth.

I find myself rolling my ankle occasionally. I wear them too often (they are basically my only pair of good shoes...job hunting and broke). I do find that when I roll my ankle, it scares me, but it doesn't hurt much. I'm not sure if I realize that I'm doing it earlier and have some reflex to protect my ankle, but as of yet (knock on wood) I've been ok.

Not sure what the alternative would be. I know my feet would be screaming in sneakers or whatever the alternative is.

One thing I might consider is Nike Air sneakers. They are very low and are sort of supposed to feel like being barefoot but with a bit of support.

I have a pair, and I occasionally roll my ankle. Nothing serious, but enough to make me look graceful walking down the hall. I love them and have worn them every day to work and off of work. I think they look cool. Recently purchased a pair of Allegria's and I am still on the fence with these shoes.

Actually I ended up in the ER on Sunday from rolling my foot and slamming my knee into the ground, I hate to blame the shoes but my feet were firmly planted on the ground. I have had them for almost 2 months now and have done what RNtobe stated just occasionally down the hall a few times. So I will see if I am going to get a pair of tennies now.

I hated my Danskos because I kept rolling my ankle in them (and they weren't as comfortable as I'd have liked, anyway).

That said, I am very clumsy. I generally only wear flat shoes that aren't "high" because of my clumsiness, and because I have broken each of my feet and my toes. Now, the low-profile Alegrias are as high off the ground as I go. :)

As for the Shape-Ups, I don't have them, but they are banned at my facility now because of two girls injuring their feet while wearing them. I've heard others say they felt really stable. I guess it just depends on your foot and how you walk.

I love my danskos....been the only shoes ive worn for the past 2 months since I got them. I got them for clinicals and hadnt started nursing school yet. Just got myself a black pair to be my all the time shoes as I wont want to wear my white ones all the time once am wearing them in the hospital.. Just find them to be sooooo comfortable with the support they provide. I have found myself rolling my ankle several times, and all of them had one thing in common....uneven floor/pavement (cracked/shifted pavement, floor with a tile missing) that i hadnt noticed (a problem one should not have in the hospital for the most part). I didnt roll my ankle hard, and most times it wasnt completely, I just start to roll and could compensate for it. That being said, I am someone that ALWAYS rolls my ankles....can be walking on perfectly flat pavement in sneakers and roll my ankle.....most i can wear in a heel is an inch or so....and it has to be a wedge or a wide heel....and even then i still have a good chance of rolling my ankle.

I've rolled my ankle in them quite a few times. It finally dawned on me that I was flirting with the Orthopod so I threw them out. Yes I sure did. Too old to be breakin a bone. But, I really did love them.
