Anyone make it into nursing school with a C in Anatomy?

I've been lurking on this website for a couple years now and have finally joined now that I'm getting closer to applying to nursing school. I've had doubts about whether I'll be able to make it in. My GPA is not the greatest and I've had to retake classes. When I'm able to really focus in on school I can get A's but I've been spread really thin these past few years, with work (as a home health CNA), having two small children and needing to help quite a lot with them plus housework due to my wife having PPD (I'm not complaining, just the way it is), moving three times, tons of home repair projects, etc. Anyway, you get the point. Life has been busy and my grades have suffered. I just finished Anatomy and passed with a C. I'm confident that had I studied more I could have done better but that didn't happen! I'm worried about not getting into nursing school. If my overall GPA was better I wouldn't worry so much, but as it is.... Has anyone on here made it into nursing school with a C in Anatomy? If so, what was your overall GPA?

I made multiple C's in pre-reqs and got accepted into the 2/2 nursing schools in which I applied.

C in anatomy doesn't look too good. You should have at least a B in all science courses especially A&P

I'm currently in pre reqs as well. While I don't have children, I am married and working more than full time hours. My big "secret"? I study whenever I can, wherever I can, even if it's for 10 minutes. When I brush my teeth, even. I have an app on my phone for Quizlet (if you don't use Quizlet, you should check it out). I have e-books downloaded to my phone for when I am waiting somewhere if I need to review. I dedicate most of my "study" time on weekends (where I actually sit down and read a book, take notes etc). I use the rest of the week to review and quiz myself, because I know I won't have the time to dedicate.

With that being said, I'm less concerned with your grades than I am with the fact that your home situation will not suddenly change in nursing school.

If your C grades are coming with pre reqs, you will likely continue to be a C student in nursing school (if you can get in) unless something changes. In my hopeful program, a C will (from what I understand) not even keep you in the program. I'd be just as concerned about staying afloat in a program, nevermind even getting into it.

I think you need to reevaluate your situation. If you are truly studying as much as you can (like, literally taking every single moment) and still pulling C's, you need to reevaluate your career expectations or your home life.

There are so many factors here that we do not know about. I know nothing, nor am I qualified to comment on your wife's medical status, your financial status, the cost of childcare in your area, etc. It sounds like you need a lot more help at home. You need to figure out how to get that home life to be more palatable. In nursing school you will take a huge income hit, as well as emotional. You will be far more spent (likely) than you are now. I worry even if you get in, it will be far more challenging than it is now.

There are SO MANY moving parts here. I would also like to add that many BSN programs will not even factor in "retakes" of pre reqs. My hopeful program only considers first attempts.

I got a C+ in AP1. Then when I took AP2, I failed with a C- and got a B+ the second time. I've gotten accepted into a nursing program. But in my other sciences, I got B's.

Like the other posts, being a C student wont really help you once you get into the program. It's staying in the program that's the hard part. I had to completely get out of that mindset and change my study habits. I could no longer "wing" it. I actually have to work my butt off and put the work in :bookworm:

I am currently finishing up A&P 1 as a pre-req and I have a B.  I just got accepted into the nursing program for this Fall.  The college requires you to maintain a grade of C to stay in the program.  So I think it really depends on the school and your area.  I just do t understand why so many people say a B in A&P is not that good when my school accepts applicants with a C.  A&P is a very hard course but I heard nursing school is even harder.  That’s why it’s so competitive to get in you need strong academic skills in order to be able to handle the program.  I have straight A’s in all my other courses and just one B in this course, and for the level of work involved and difficulty in it I think a B is pretty damn good!! Also considering the majority of the class is failing.
