Do you consider Lubbock a safe area. I am a new graduate looking at UMC. I would be moving there by myself and need to know that it is safe for a 23 year old woman. Also, what are the seasons like. I know it gets hot there in the summer, but how is the weather the rest of the year?

Thank you!

umm its so far up north. its freezing all the time. they get snow. its realllllllllllly boring..and are you looking at my emphasis on really. there is N O T H I N G to do. i think you're picking one of the WORST cities in texas to move to. no crime of course. its safe. i mean you do have Texas Tech.. but its hella boring..and its plain view..landscape.. and "plainview" is also a relatively close town. its not for the young. id N E V E R move there. but as far as what your'e looking for..its safe =) watch somebody come back behind me and say W H A T i loveee lubbock..yeah probably because thats where they grew up... lol

Prettyladie is a little off the mark. The winter gets very cold and the summer is very hot. Because it is the desert, days can be hot and nights get cold, and the weather can always turn! (last week it snowed, the next day was 80 degrees!?) Lubbock is a smaller town (i grew up in dallas). i have lived here for the past 6 years going to school, many of them i lived alone in a house or an apartment. lubbock does have a high crime rate, but i have generally always felt safe and there are nicer parts of the town you may choose to live. There is a decent nightlife, shopping and restaurant scene. you aren't going to find any five star cuisine or shop at prada (or even macy's)! but you can get by. there are plenty of outdoor activities like camping, hiking and lakes around. Personally, i am ready to leave lubbock after 6 years, but i had a good time while i was here. let me know if you have any other questions!

what lubbock was that?? lol. maybe it was a twist of the Texas weather because when i was up there it was cold. and nigthlife?? lol but at least you have two comments.

Where are you coming from would be my 1st question. If you are coming from a town of green trees, colorful flowers, hills, mountains, nice lakes you are going to be in for a COMPLETE SHOCK. Lubbock is FLAT, UGLY, VERY FEW TREES, AND ALOT OF SAND BLOWING AROUND. I lived there for many years and was happy to finally move. I believe the only place that could be as flat and treeless is the arizona desert. NEED I SAY MORE????? UMC is a terrific place to work I did work there. You don't want to live anywhere near the campus. Lubbocks crime rate in high but look at the news today... your not safe anywhere. Night life?????? Hope you like the bar scenes with alot of college students. But don't worry about choosing where to go their are not many. Shopping????? about 5 hrs away in DALLAS. Ok I guess I better get off this wagon.

Oh Im sorry forgot about the weather... you better know how to drive on the ice and snow they get ALOT. You go to bed and its 60 degrees wake up and you have a foot of snow on the ground. UMC does not take kindly to call ins for weather related. The summers are extremely dry and HOT. Oh and don't forget the SAND STORM months. Hope you don't have allergies.
